Finally got my 30K service done.
Just got done changing diff oil and trans fluid today, car has about 34,000 miles on it. Its a 2003 model I got last month. All thats left is the brake fluid and coolant change. Hoses and belt are still fine. Went pretty good, easy to work on.

What did you put in the trans? I've been thinking about synthetic but a recent talk with a former Honda service manager has me hesitating. He strongly recommended the Honda trans oil.

I have used Honda's new MTF for the tranny.
Are you sure you need to change the coolant this early? Seems like a waste to me since it is suppose to be good for 100,000 miles.

How about the differential lube? I think mother says it should be done at 15K. Maybe sooner as I'm now learning that this area may be one of stewie's weak points.
Recommendations as to milage and type of fluid appreciated. Regards Paul

Well, I used Mobil 1 15W50 for the trans, The factory service manual states not to use motor oil for a long time since it makes it harder to shift not becuase it hurts the trans. Synthetic oil is slicker so it should do ok. So far the shifting is just fine if not better. I used Valvoline Durablend gear oil 85W140 in the rear. Old oil in both units was getting dark so it was time to do it anyway. I dont know the history of the car so I am going to replace the brake fluid and coolant soon just to be sure everythings fresh and new. I hate that long life stuff, GM uses that Dex Cool crap and its like pouring crap in your radiator. Im sure Honda's version is much better but I always liked the green stuff. Its 4 years old with 35,000 miles on it to.

It might be a good idea to stick with Honda coolant, since the engine is somewhat exotic and you can be sure it's compatible.

I know for a fact that the engine in the Blackbird, mother's 2 wheeled baby, was fussy about the coolant. Only mother's own was recommended. Something or other about corrosion on aluminum engine parts. Maybe stewie needs the same TLC.

It's always been a given that any aluminum engine should use coolant specifically made for aluminum because of a form of coolant corrosion.

The coolant I got says its for aluminum, every one does now anyway. I will check out the Honda version before I change it though.

My brother is with American Honda and he says to use Honda coolant. It may have added ingredients specified by Honda engineers. GM has their own coolant and it has been a disaster. It turns to sludge.
