Braces
I need some advice on braces. I've been looking at the shock tower braces and the X braces and I've been thinking about putting both of them on. I have no complaints about handling or flexing but the car is just so nice and tight that I want to keep it that way. I figure a couple of extra braces now might avoid some squeaks or rattles in the future. I do plan on autocrossing.
Any recommendations? Any to avoid? Thanks

Put in a full roll cage it will eliminate the need for other braces and you'll probably need to to auto cross it. There a guy on S2KCA who is developing one that will be SCCA legal.

'Roll cage'z kind'a extreme don'cha think des? For all out autoX I believe you do need a cage, but for the lesser classes a real (as opposed ta the pretenders) roll bar will suffice n' also allow you a lesser amount'a in-yer-face when you're drivin' on public roads.
I'd originally thought about braces too DJJ, but after spendin' time in the car, found it to be damned near the stiffest thing I've ridden in n' scrapped the idea. But if I was goin' autoXin' I'd likely get them for the reasons you mentioned. From some'a the stuff I'd originally read, some undermount chassis pieces actually do take away from our already minimal ground clearance. Not all of 'em, but one was mentioned. Probably not nothin' you didn't already know, but there it is anyway. Keep us posted how you progress with it. Java

You do not need a roll bar/cage to autoX in SCCA. I have been doing it for years. Think about Miata. They do not even come with ANY type of roll over protection (hoops) and they do VERY well in their class in autoX's.
As for the OP's questions, a STB will do nothing but look good. An X-brace will help some, but not enough to really notice. Also remember, that adding stuff to your car will change your class in SCCA and put you up against stronger competition. I have to run in SM2 and I have to run against a 381 WHP, a 425 WHP, and a 470 WHP set of Corvettes. Not fun.
