6 speed speeding problem

well im having trouble because i want to get through my 6 gears (so much fun ya know) but by the time im doing that im going 48mph in a 25 30 or 35 zone. this car is going to get my license gone. do you guys generally cruise in 5th or what? also i have a real question do you guys think the 4.77 final gear would be impractical for a car you drive 3-5 days a week? in a city highway mix?

Aaaay Zy, owyadoon?
In my own experience, I've noted that Stewie'z not shy. Stewie'll flat out le'cha know when you're doggin' it. Jumpin' into a higher gear than'z necessary'll usually have ya grumblin' at'cherself n' kickin' it back down where it should be. Hopefully before you've godda be reminded jus' how weak-kneed Stewie is in the low numbers.
I'm sure I remember seein' some chart'r other regardin' the speeds-in-gears in Mother Honda's Good Book. If you're one that actually pays attention to the pretty red numbers, maybe jus' as reassurance tha'cher doon it right, y'aughta take a look see at whut Mother says.
I think if you could abide by Mother's recommendations you wouldn't godda consider spendin' money on changin' any rear cogs. 'Ain't no sense in spendin' hard-earned if one don't godda, y'know?
Be well,
Java

If you are in 6th gear at 48 miles per hour, you are shifting to quickly. I don't use 6th until over 55 miles per hour and that is just for cruising.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

I've done 40mph in 6th for crusing. No bogging. For 25 30 or 35mph zone, I would use 4th or 5th, but this is for cruising.

I used to cruise decades, shifting up on the next ten, but after I got an AP2 it had a much lower shift scale. Now I just listen - if I'm in normal traffic the decades still work, but if I'm going for speed I shift about a decade later. If I'm really going for performance I'll let it redline (almost) before shifting.

As long as we are talking about shiftin Stewie, I have a question:

Suppose you are curisin in 6th, turnin' say 3.5k. You want to pass the rolling road block in front of you and at the same time have a little fun playing with VTech. Is the best course of action to work down through the gears to say 4th or to just skip the sequence and go straight to 4th?

Damn, been without a stick for too long! Thanks one and all.

Best regards
Pablo

I pretty much keep it in 3rd just in case anyone wants to race.....kidding. I do a lot of highway driving. S2000 is not my daily driver, but the few times so far that I have been able to spend a full day driving it, I find that I usually rest in 5th, unless on the expressway, then its 6th!

Along the lines of this topic, I find it funny when I let some people drive it, they always, always always shift at like 3500 rpms, and kind of have a look like "this car isn't really fast" I then tell them to look at the dash that is bright and shiny in their face telling them that they should try and get closer to that little 9k rpm range and then tell me what they think.. Always brings a smile to my and the driver's face!

I've read all the arguments against skip shifting. All of them involve making the synchros do more work than they're designed for. However, in the same situation, I'd still go to 4, but I'd put the shifter through 5th. I'm too sure what's the "best" anymore, but that's my new habit and I'm sticking with it.

As for the cruising part, I shift at 4 when I'm cruising and keep the RPMs between 2 and 3.

I shift my AP1 between 3500 and 5500 most of the time. The Mugen ECU engages the V-TEC at 4700 as opposed to stock at 5800. It's always fun.

Before here I never worried about my synchros, and probably will keep doing this, but in that situation I drop to 4th and go for VTEC, just because it feels so good...

I spoke to Scott at KingMotorsports about the Mugen ECU and he told me it is a genneric one on the website and actually goes in an RSX so the V-TECH engaugement point for the S2k is still at the stock 5800 rpm.
