S2000 Winter Question

I am considering an 04 S2000, and if I get it, I will drive it all year round in New England. I have read others have put Blizzak LM22's on it for the winter and have been very happy. For anyone who has driven it in the snow with snow tires, was the lack of traction control problematic? Did you find the tires spinning all over and the rear difficult to keep in line?

Thanks,
Larry

I have said it once and got ripped on from some people. The s sucks in the rain think how it would handle in the snow. Not to mention that the winter is very tuff on your car (salt, gravel, bad drivers...). Do what I do, buy an old beat op AWD Subaru for $1000, I have a 1990 with 220,000mi and it runs great, that way you won't care when the truck in front of you sprays the paint with gravel, the random car hits you in a parking lot, the winter ice storm puts 8" of ice on your car and you have to use an ice pick to get in, whatever. And not to mention my Ins. is less than it would be if I only had the S listed.

On another note there is a guy who posts alot on www.s2k.com who lives in Calgery, Canada and drives his all year round.

My 04 s2k is a daily driver, 120 mile/day, rain or snow or sun. The Blizzaks are required in the winter. I don't know how they do it but those tires are terrific. With them, this car is as good or better in the snow than my Accord was , allowing for low ground clearance issues. You're not gonna go offroading, but on highways and local streets, simply amazing.

The potenzas are very dangerous in the snow, don't try it

Usual disclaimer, no financial interest, ymmv, etc

Terry

The OEM tires are an accident waiting to happen in the snow/cold weather. I drove mine 1 day last winter and it was SCARY! Never again. She'll stay in the garage unless the weathers all clear. My advice to you: Buy a beater. They're cheap and fun!

Thanks for the feedback. I was real close to buying a red 04 s2k but the dealer was screwing with me and made me think twice. It just seemed a bit too impractical. If I could afford a dependable second car it would have worked great.

I went with a Red G35 Coupe 6MT for the back seat (tiny, but existent) and traction/stability control. So far its been great.

Just as a sidenote in case anyone was wondering, carsdirect.com is full of crap. They advertise guaranteed low price of $30,495 for the s2k. Before I changed my mind to buy the car, I initiated a request for a red s2k, and when they finally got back to me after pressuring me to order before confirming availability/price/timeframe, the guy told me he can't find a red s2k for their "guaranteed" price of $30,495. Then he tells me that with some more work, and he clarified that by work he meant more money, one could be found. What a hoax!
