Where are you guys shifting during normal everyday driving???

I'm still used to having my GT so I constantly finding myself shifting around 2.5-3K just curious where the rest of you are

(Oh, I jus' crack myself up!) Ta be honest aboudditt AT, I don't shift until it sounds like it needs shiftin', but I've been windin' bikes up inta the high numbers for a long time so I'm windin' it out a bit.
But 2500 to 3? Way too low bro. You're luggin' it n' Stewie'z got nothin' downstairs ta lug with.
If I hadda paint by numbers, I wouldn't grab the next gear no lower'n 5 grand.
But, thass jus' me.

My first instinct says: I'm shifting when I'm in my s2k

But I'm with you, if I'm not accelerating that quickly, I shift at 3k. Sometimes I wind it out to 5, but only if I'm passing.

The longer I have this car, the higher that shift number becomes

I, too, moved to the s2k from a torquey V8... and I'm just diggin' the hard work ethic this lil' motor has! If I pull out with the intention of continuing to accelerate at a "moderate rate", I shift between 5000 to 5500. That puts me at a pretty reasonable RPM in my next gear...

Still a noob, but that's where I'm at right now... And I've driven enough man-trans cars to know that 3500 is not a good shift point for this vehicle...as my far more experienced s2k colleagues have indicated.

If you're shiftin' at 3 n' you're not drummin' yer fingers impatiently n' checkin' your watch waitin' fer the speed to build, then 3's fine for that situation. Stewie ain't subtle. If you're shiftin' too soon you won't hafta check us AT. You're obviously doon fine.
But I've seen that it's common for folks weaned on Amuricun A'rn, with the relatively low redlines, to feel uncomfortable windin' out engines meant for high RPM.
'Use'ta see it all'a time in the bike shop n' spent alodda time convincin' folks that the engine in their new bike was actually meant tor the higher RPMs, n' windin' it up wuzzn't gonna hurt nothin'. 'Jus' mind the redline'z'all.
You could see it in their faces, when they came walkin' through the door after they'd finally wound it up; the sheepish (Not a word Jagg) grins that you could see before they even took their helmets off.
The redline'z clearly marked n' z'where Mama Honda says it's ill advised ta tread beyond. (N' it's been my experience that it's never adviseable ta lock horns with no kind'a Mama.) 'Z'I see it, anythin' less than the redline'z designed for n' authorized by Mama. Who'z gonna argue widd'att?
(N' ya godda know too, if y'are luggin' it, ya ain't doon the engine any favors neither.)

Most of my time is commuting so I tend to go around 3K just cause I'm stuck behind others. When I happen to hit a light out front, I've noticed that I still tend to do that just 'cause I'm cheap and 91 octane isn't... On weekends, or when I'm feeling more like drivin' then commutin', I don't stop at 5K but do avoid the red line... I do tick it down and sit in 6th gear at highway speed (65 or 75 here).

I also find my self cruising in 6th, no matter the speed 40mph or 80mph, once I get to the limit I just pop it into 6th, am I killing my mpg?

I drive in a lot of traffic out here, so I usually shift around 3-4k, but if I see an opening, lord knows when I will take the time to shift lol

Not likely AT.

Best fuel economy is achieved by shortshifting up thru the gears at full throttle.

When I'm not driving the S for performance, I tend to be shifting somewhere just under where vtec comes in........when I'm driving, she sees all of the tach, and once in a while bounces off the limiter.

Averaging appx 27 mpg.

As for fuel economy, I think much rides on whether'r not you drive in a trafficy area (yeah . . made it up. Expectin' kg ta pull me over any time now) 'r an area where a drive might have ya comin' across one pick-up goin' in the opposite direction. (I've changed the names to protect the innocent).
If you're constantly gettin' on the binders 'cause'a traffic, you kin bend over n' kiss yer wallet goodbye.
Every slow down requires an additional reacceleration up to speed.
If you're on the brakes a bit, you don't wanna be checkin' your mileage. 'Hate ta see grow'd men cry.

Well, if we're talking about max mpgs, which is how I STARTED to drive, before learning about vtec, mama honda says for the AP2 the miles per hour should be:
1st to 2nd 15
2nd to 3rd 25
3rd to 4th 40
4th to 5th 47
5th to 6th 52
Don't know why 4th only gets 5mph but that's how the gears work. Personally I drive decades (2nd at 10mph, etc) but after reading this thread I'm starting to watch the tach instead and probably killing my mileage...

If i'm not taking the train in to work, I have a 72 mile round trip. On an average traffic day, that's 2 hours in the car, 45 minutes on the inbound trip, and 75 on the outbound. It's a lot of footwork, and I find myself shifting through the gears pretty quickly.

This all changed last weekend. Bought a beater, so I let an electronic brain do the shifting for me now and leave Stewie for the days I get to wind it out.

I honestly don't know where I shift at, I guess it depends if I'm driving in town or on a hwy. But yeah I don't really pay attention lol. I'm thinking around 4-5k.

I shift around 4k-5k. Don't really have a reason why, thats just when my left foot steps on the clutch and my right hand shifts before I even know it.

Crusin' hangin' and chillin' 'round town.........3.5K - 4K (AP2)........

Passin, red line it every gear........have to admit, the rev limiter cut me out (thankfully) a few times. Still can't get that Blackbird's 10K redline out of my head.
