How are S2000s?

Hey, I have a 01 Civic 2dr that i've done some stuff to. The usual, intake exhaust, body kit, 18s, projector lights, altezzas, a bunch of neon, and stuff like that. I also dropped it w/ eibach sportlines, and i've just been having a bunch of annoying little upkeep maintanence i have to do. Ex. i have to buy new bulbs like every month cuz my projectors convert my h4 bulbs to h3 &h1, tires wore wrong cause i took too long to put acamber kit on, cracking my kit/paint, 18s are a bitch to drive in New Orleans with and i think my shocks are about to go too.

But onto my question... I am seriously considering buying a S2000 in its place. I dont know anybody who has a S2000, so i was wondering if you guys could tell me some stuff about the car. I kinda learned from my experience w/ the civic that i probably won't modify the car too much... so is it fast stock? how are the stock tires? did u change the rims/tires? if so, what sizes (rim size and tires size) did you get? If i change my mind, are there a good amount of performance upgrades you can do because it has such a high compression ratio? Hows the ground clearance? Is there anything else i should know about the S2000? Any regrets? Thanks for your help.

S2000 A+

I reacently got moved to WV and have had no problems with ground clerance. The stock tires are great, the whole car runs great stock, I have an '03 and may jump to 17"s when I go through my tires but I will stay with the Bridgestone tire ( the only thing bad is you do eat tires). Over all, I owned a '01 Boxter S prior to my S2000 and this is twice the car my Boxter was, It handles great, It's fast, and on road trips I get about 30 mpg, , if you want a pure sports car there is none better.

you can go to S2ki.com for information but there is too much to look at and the site is not very organized. one post takes too long to read. if you are going to get a S2k then buy one when the new ones come out in 2004 or 05 because you get about 20 more HP and 15 more torque. the handling is very close to the handling of an NSX and the tires are protzoans p-03 i think and are vor x rated. but in the future i will be getting some mugen Rims the gold ones

Supposedly, the S is going to be called an S2200 and is supposed to have 250 HP and a little more torque than the present S. The stock tires were made especially for our car and they are Bridgestone Potenza S-02s and, I think they are W rated. They don't last that long because they are very soft, but grip unbelieveably well on dry roads. Wet roads are another thing. You have to be very careful on wet roads (but then shouldn't you always?).
I've had my S for over two years and plan to keep it stock. It suits my needs very well.

yes i heard the new s2000 was gonna be called the s2200 for its 2.2 liter engine. i test drove an s2k not to long ago and the handling and power was great " at least in my opinion" it was. by the way the new s2k has 240 hp and 161 lbs torque. the torque was the only thing that went up..

It's not called the S2200 for various reasons... not the least of which is that the 2.2L is only sold in north America. Europe and Japan continue to get the original F20c motor and continue with the 8900rpm redline.

The engines are the same block, only the stroke has been increased to give an additional 50 cc per cylinder. The HP numbers haven't changed because the peak torque is just slightly shifted to the left.

Upgrades. If you are looking at ricing your car like you have done your Civic with oversized wheels (heavier, more rotating mass, more unsprung weight), intake (hydrolock, noise, no performance gains), fart can exhaust (noise, rust, no performance gains), Altezza's (no comment) I'd suggest you stay away from the S and stay in the "Civic Nation". Of note, the MY04's now have 17" wheels, with less aggressive rubber.

If you, however, want a true RWD sports car, you could not do better than the S. The usual cheap mods do little to help performance. Forced induction can give you signficant gains if you want to go that route. Figure 5-6 grand installed for a Comptech or Vortech SC if you leave everything else stock.

The other thing I always tell people when asking about this car is to consider your living situation very carefully. This is a convertible and attracts attention from the wrong kind of people. I wouldn't think of owning this car if I didn't have a house with a garage to park it in (i.e. no street parking, no apartment complex parking). Second, for some this car is a daily driver, but realistically, you might need a second car to carry stuff in because the S wasn't designed with runs to Home Depot in mind.
