2000 Honda S2000 vs New S2000

Sorry for asking such a stupid question, but I was wondering if the higher reving s2000 is just as fast, or faster than a new s2000. I am just asking cause I want a S2000 very badly and I want the the quickest one.

The newer S2000s have been proven quicker in every gear. The new ones I would have to say are quicker but you are loosing some of the high reving wow effect but oh well that got annoying on the interstate anyways. lol

I had the same question on another post, but I only got 2 replies so, I test drove a new 2004 and a Honda Certified 2003 with 6600 miles on it. The 2003 "seemed" quicker, however the 2004 engine was not broken in. The suspension seems tighter on the 03. After much debate I purchased the 2003 since it is Honda Certified and I saved at least 5k. Either was you can't go wrong.

rebel that was a wise decision on bying the old model. i have a 2000 s2000 with 12,200 miles on it and i love it. and to answer the question. the 2004 model is faster then the older one from 0-60 by .3, and the older model is faster in the quarter mile by .4, so that should clarify anyones councern. i also like how the first answer to your post said "that the new one is faster in every gear". <------ This coming from someone who doesent know anything.

Both the AP1 and AP2 are very capable cars. I find it amusing when people say that the 04+ have "so much more torque." The F22C makes about 10 more ft lbs. That's not enough to make it some tire shredding demon...

IMHO, what makes the 04+ a little quicker is the shorter gearing on gears 1-4. Mate the 04+ transmission to an F20C and then compare straight line acceleration if you want. It would probably be a lot closer.

Personally, I like the wilder side to the 1st gen S2000. The steering has a quicker ratio, the rear has higher spring rates, and a bigger sway bar. These things add up to a car that require a little more from the driver than an 04 would.

About 3 months ago when the warranty expired on my 01 I had a 3 way decision to make:
1. Supercharge and other upgrades
2. Trade for 04 S2K
3. Trade for 04 Corvette, maybe Z06

I decided to go with #1. The gearing on the 04 is well matched to the slight increase in torque and if you are doing stoplight launches/street racing I suppose it would be the way to go. (The Z06 would be a much BETTER way to go for that however). But, the reason I got the S in the first place was that it was about as 'raw' a sports car as I could find. I can't think of a better way to describe it but if you come from sport bikes like me, you should know what I'm talking about.

That said, the drop in redline, the more supple suspension and slightly lighter steering feel of the 04 took away some of that 'raw' feel although they made the car more driveable. I think the changes are a good compromise but, again, take away from that sport bike feel.

1/4 mile times and 0-60 times from magazines are a reasonable start to compare cars but unless the numbers are derived from side by side acceleration runs, similar drivers, etc. differences of <1.0 sec are just for bragging on the internet, not much more.

OT, but I loved the C6 too, and they were really dealing on those at the time. Just not what I was looking for.

Why do people Always ask "Which S2 is faster? But instead ask yourself
How much do I WEIGHT? if you don't think 20-30-40-up to 100 LBS don't make a different then speed shouldn't be your main concern. Just think about it.

As noted above, driver skill and exact conditions impact a vehicles test result #s in car magazines. Having said that, Car and Driver recorded a 0-60 time of 5.5 for the 2004 model and 5.4 for a 2003 model. However, the 2004 was quicker through the 1/4 mile (14.0 vs 14.1).

At the end of the day both cars are almost identical in speed when run full out. The 2004 is "easier" to drive around town with the torque peaking several hundred rpm lower.

Both are great cars though!

From what i heard was that the MY04 was under-rated. Instead of 240hp it had 260 at the crank. So i'm assuming it'll be a bit quicker.
