TICKING NOISE AT START UP

Help, ive been getting a ticking noise when i start my engine similar to
that of a diesel engine noise. Sort of like valve clatter...except i don't think
it is because its not continueous. It only happens when i start the engine.
Even then it doesn't happen all the time. If i let the car sit overnight in the
garage and start it the next morning....it won't make the noise. However if i drive it, say running some errands or something, then come back out
to the car after and start it up....it makes the noise. But then again it gets
tricky...if i start it and i makes the noise...i can immedietly turn it off and
turn it back on again and it won't make the noise. What the F*#K is going
on. Im so confused. Also i changed the oil about a thousand miles back and it stopped making the noise. Now its back again!

SOMEONE HELP!

this is the all so familiar "if you have ever owned a toyota click". My mr2 was like clock work when it needed a n oil change, it would start ticking, mostly in the morning then all throuout the day at about 3700 miles into an oil change. Most likely the valve springs and rockers. Nothing to really worry about. The oil loses its viscosity and starts to get thin causeing a little chatter, also if the engine has higher miles on it and is run pretty hard the valve springs can lose tension and need adjusting, not so much on these bad ass hondas, but on my mr2 it was periodic. The reason it may due it the morning is that the oil has settled and just needs to get aroungd those parts. And on hot days after it gets run, the oil is slick and hot and settles fast but move quickly back up into the valves, re lubricatiiog. Stopping that ticking. It is annoying and sounds weak, but I wouldn't be to concerned, just make sure you are not low on oil. This will also cause similiar noises, but after a major knock towards the end of that engines life. Hope I helped.

I notice more valve clatter (I'm also betting that's what you have) since I strated using synthetic oil. Didn't do it as much with conventional oil.
