Advice on buying a used 2001

I'm sure you've seen a zillion of these newbie questions but I would appreciate some advice.

I test drove a mint condition 2001 S2000 with under 18K miles. I'm very impressed overall with the car. The one thing I found disconcerting was the sound of the engine. Sure, I've read a number of comments about the hi-revving S2000 -- it's the stuff of legend. I'm curious what's a normal cruising RPM?

My experience on the test drive was the entire time the car sounded like a normal car would wound to red line. The 'buzz' did drop down to a bit under 4k RPMs for the brief spell I popped it into 6th. But by then I was at 75.

I've never driven a car like it so I'm not sure what to expect. Thanks for any advice/insights you can offer.

that sound is what makes the S2000 so bad ***... THat rev will turn heads the entire time you own the car! Its also seems a hell of a lot louder than ussual if your not used to being in a convertible. Suck it up and buy one, you ll never regret it!

I took the advice of some S2000 owners and bought a 2002 S2000 over the 2001. It could have been I wasn't used to the engine and was over-revving it. It could be, as you said, I wasn't used to the car. But all I know is when I test drove a 2002 about a week later with top up and top down it was a completely different experience. Now that I own it, even when I go into VTEC it seems quieter than the 2001 I tested. Can't pin down the why but I do know I love my new S2000! In a few minutes I plan to jump into it. I simply can't get enough driving time in it!
