05' last year for s2k ??

Some idiot I know told me thaT 05 will be the last year for the s2k. I told him I was 99% sure he didnt know what the hell he was talking about. Can anyone verify this ? Honda has struck gold with the s2k there would be no reason to end it after only a couple years.

hey, I just checked out motortrend's "future vehicle forecast" and their exact words for the 05 s2k was this

(2005 Honda S2000 : Redesign with obligatory power boost.)

I dont think honda would discontinue this vehicle because it seems they've had much success with it.

But it also had no predictions for the 06 or 07 s2k but if what they said about the 05 was true they shouldn't be changing it for a few following years.

It also makes me wonder why they put the 2.2 in the 04 and made subtle cosmetic changes to it also if they are putting out a redesigned s2k for 05

Nobody knows. The S2, like the NSX, has never been a 'gold mine' for Honda. Given the production costs of a car like this, with most parts unique to the chassis, I doubt they're making a killing. Compared to Accords and MDX's, the sales aren't what's driving this car to redesign. It's a niche vehicle. Personally, I'd like to see it discontinued. Think about the following cars like the Supra now have, even though discontinued.

Given the low production numbers I keep hearing on the S2000 -- usually in the 6,000-7,000 range -- you're right. By contrast, Nissan pumps out 20,000-30,000 Zs a year. So, there's not a lot of profit for Honda.

But most large manufacturers want to offer a complete range of products from compact to sedan to minivan to SUV to sports car. And sports cars tend to be the prestige models that draw attention to a product line. So, I'd be surprised if Honda drops sports cars altogether. Of course, that doesn't mean they have to offer an S2000. But consider....

The S2000's low volume is in its favor. It's not like Honda has to keep up huge sales levels to keep some plant open. I imagine they can sell 6,000-7,000 S2000s per year for some time. It's a classic looking coupe along the lines of the old British MG/Triumph cars when I was a kid (plus you get real performance and Honda quality!). Also, I'd think there'd be some inertia at Honda to replace a low volume sports car with another low volume sports car because it's hard to cover the development costs.

The NSX was milked by Honda long after it should have been retired. I expect Honda to hold onto the S2000 in the same vein and, IMHO, the S2000's classic lines mean it will have a long shelf life.

Has Honda shown off any sports concept cars?

I heard about this right before I picked up my ?03 a few months ago. The dealer I got mine from told me they were releasing a Tuned DOWN version next year to compete w/t Miata and make some more $$$ so it goes w/ what yall are saying about Honda not making huge profits on this car. Something about the S2k having 150 HP but they are gonna sell for like 19K +- Also S2k and NSX are made in the same plant if they are stopping production of NSX it figures they will do something with that plant.

Just rumors but that?s what I heard.

this is wut i heared the honda is making an all new CRX kind of car, well similar to the new SIR, and s2000 is not making honda happy because not much profit.

I keep hearing this but it doesn't make any sense. The 'hand built' Honda has been a low volume -- by design -- sports car from day one. They can sell 5,000-6,000 S2000s per year for years without much investment in development. So where's the disappointment? I'm willing to bet Honda always expected an extended life (in term of average model lives) for it to cover development costs. How else do you recoup costs with a low volume car priced as agressively as the S2000?

I just read that Honda is working on an NSX replacement. They obviously are focused on that older sports platform for now. A CRX kind of car makes sense, too, since it's a niche they need to fill to compete with the soon-to-be-released Pontiac Solstice and the Mazda Miata. It also wouldn't surprise me if they came out with a Prelude replacement to compete with cars like the Infiniti G35 coupe.

My prediction? We'll see a S2000 through at least 2008.
