Question about engine oil

Hi, when i bought my s2000 the dealer keeps on reminding me for chechking the engine oil every 2 weeks , so is it really that serious after all, i mean does it really burn that much oil compare to other cars? also if i find that my car is short on engine oil how do i know how much to put in? cause i know that too much oil can damage the engine.

Thank you ~

Yes, S2k eats oil like it was gas. If your gonna go run with it I would defiantly make sure you are topped off.

You don?t know how to check oil your might be in trouble there. Pull the dipstick and add ad needed.

First of all, this car does not burn oil unless something is wrong.

Second, if the oil is below the lower mark on the dipstick, add half a quart and recheck. Half a quart will not move the oil level ABOVE the higher point on the dipstick if you are worried about overfilling. If the level still is below the lower mark after half a quart, add another half a quart.

You are right that overfilling your crankcase is not a good idea, but by adding 1/2 a quart at a time if you are low to begin with, you are not going to cause problems.

How often should you check the oil? I was told that I couldn't just get oil and stick it in, is this true?

I don't think there is anything wrong with asking these sorts of questions, surely? I love driving which is why I bought my S2000, but I'm not particularly knowledgeable of what goes on under the hood so I'm asking questions.

There's no such thing as a stupid question, there's just stupid answers.

thank god someone else has this oil problem. my car has 40k and i'm thinking major problems. but after reading posts on s2ki and other sites, apparently this little engine loves it's oil. i have just been adding 1/2 quart when it seems low on the stick. but the light has yet to ever come on, so this shows that it hasn't gone down to low. thank you for all your advice folks.

If you like your car, and you intend to keep it running well, check your oil level weekly. these little power packs use some oil and this has caused engine failure world wide.

Prvention Prevention Prevention.

Also use high quality Sythetis Oil!!!!!

Ok, its definitely time to check the oil more often. Last time was a couple of months ago when sitting outside Le Mans.
