Hurricane Frances, my Cold Air Intake, and a thrown rod...

I am in SoFlo and finally got out of the hurricane Sunday afternoon for a beer with some friends. While driving to the bar, my S2K (which has a cold air intake run to the front right wheel well) encountered a few inches of water and subsequently stalled.

Knowing what most likely happend (clogged intake), I pushed the car to a parking lot and checked the intake. It was understandably wet, so I walked the remaining hundred yards to the bar and had a few drinks thinking I'd let it dry out.

Now comes the carnage...as me and a buddy went back to the car, I went to start it up. Then engine took a minute to catch, but when it finally did and I gave it oh-so-little gas, WHAM - a not-so-nice noice and a complete shut down indicated something serious was wrong. Oil immediately poured from underneath the car. Alas - I think I threw a rod...

I still haven't had it checked out as I have questions about insurance, warranty etc. Anyone know what happened exactly?

bad news, but thanks for the warning

Francis is now passing over my part of the world and I just put on an AEM V2 CAI over the weekend. I was already worried about driving tomorrow even though I carefully filled all the drain holes over the filter.

After reading your post I disconnected and covered the bottom tube and put my old K and N filter on the short tube, so essentially I have a short ram intake that will not hydrolock unless I decide to become a boat. I may have heat soak until it stops raining but at least the car is safe.

Sorry for your bad news and I hope you can get it covered under insurance. After all you are in a disaster area which should help.

Thanks again for the warning,

Tim
