i usually try to keep it between 8000-9000 for optimal fuel consumption. Oh, you mean economy, I try 4000 as a top shift mark. It feels alot like a civic, but drive fairly well and my guage doensn't move as rapidly (gas guage). I do find though that no matter what I still only get about 200 miles to a tank full. I did top 220 but that was babying it mostly the whole time. I just got it, so I might be able to get more on a trip or something, but I suggest to keep things clean and well, don't drive like a sissy in the low ranges, but don't drive like a mad man 24-7 if fuel consumption is a problem. Bottom line 4000rpm... Hope I made sense.

optimum gas mileage is usually attained when running the engine (any engine) at the lowest possible rpm and highest possible gear without lugging the engine. not much fun to drive that way, though.

Mileage

My car on the highway in 6th gear turns about 4 grand at 80 miles per hour. I took a long trip two weeks ago and got 32.5 miles per gallon. The sticker EPA rating for the car on the highway is 28. I am pleased. For optimum fuel mileage, stay out of the VTEC.

The S2000 has 2 modes. Normal driving and VTEC. VTECing it excessively is going to guzzle fuel. I normally shift under 4,000 RPM. A bit humbling because at that pace common beaters often roll right past me. But you always know you can kick ass at any time....

Also, it's how quick you accelerate to shift points, even relatively low shift points. The bottom line: aggressive driving sucks gas. But, hey, if you want good fuel economy buy a hybrid.
