I've done 7 hour drives on weekends back and forth from San Diego to Sonoma for track days and wine touring. I would take my S any day over any Boxster. I sat in a Boxster one time and I had enough. Why? Because the shifter felt like absolute sh!t and it had a plastic window. I had no desire to drive it.

I think a lot of you missed the mark on this one...Boxsters are available with Tiptronic (automatic transmission!). Sports car? I think not. Grocery getter, image car? fo sho! I see all kinds of Boxsters everyday, and they all seem to be top-up and their drivers are on cell phones. Not what its about in my opinion.

Hands-down, I would choose the S. Boxsters are too expensive, and other than the Porsche logos all over the car, you're not getting much more than you get with an S.

Well, the 'vette has been 2 tons of fun. The white S2k I almost got is sold, and I've seen the guy who bought it cruising around 2 or 3 times. I slipped him a thumbs up, but he didn't wave back. I suppose 'vette guys and S2k guys don't usually trade waves? Maybe he's just a snob. If some guy in a Z06 waves at you, it might be me.
About some of the comments above, the Boxster shift/clutch has sucked on every car i've driven. And whats really odd to me is they all feel different. One had a light shift but STIFF clutch, one I honestly had to yank pretty good to get from gear to gear but the pedal had no effort. Others are various places in between. What is up with that? They have glass windows since 2003, which is alot better. About the 911 -vs- boxster/cayman. I just can't agree. Its funny when Clarkson from Top Gear talks about boxsters being poor mans porsches, but the Cayman, not the 911, is the best all-around drive in the Porsche lineup, IMO. I've driven only 2 911's, but both were new (997s) and both left me wondering what the big deal was. |

No question the 'S'.
But if money were no object however I'd like a Boxster 'S' as well.

When I was shopping I drove just about every roadster available and ended up with the S2000 because it was more me. I thought I wanted the Z3 but was much more impressed with the "notchy-ness" of the S2000.
Recently I have driven a Caymen S and was underwhelmed. It just doesn't feel the way it looks. I drove a 08 Z06 and HOLY BEJEZUS! That was fun. Not to mention it was a friend's car at the track. Didn't really like the interior but the performance on that car is Amazing. Well, until I got into the GT2. But that's another story. There is nothing like an interior that consists of red stitched black suede and carbon fiber. Glad you found something you like!

Nice pick indeed, that's a very fun, exciting, raw car you've purchased. Enjoy it!

Hey all,
I did get the 'Vette out to a track a couple of times. What fun that is. With my instructor behind the wheel, I learned that a properly driven Z06 can badly outrun any of Ford GT, Panoz Race thing (GTLMS or something), and come what may. With me driving, much less impressive, but I'm learning. lol I did take the car from a roll (~20mph) to 160 in 18sec per the stopwatch built into the car. Thats pretty retarded. I saw a 2000 S2k locally today, and stopped to ask about it. Its silver, has 14,000 miles, and they want $15,000. Is that reasonable? I'll look around for the proper forum to ask in. |

That might not be a bad price for the first year model and low miles. I saw a cherry '01 silverstone for sale a year ago with the same mileage and the guy wanted $17k.
