Gas and a Car
So with Gas prices slowly climbing to that $4 mark out here in Co it has made me step up my look for an S2000. I have to pause though becuase there is another car that I want and maybe a Motorcycle too.
See out here on the "Front Range" we are blessed with calm winters and can ride a bike or drive with the top down in the dead of winter. I need to get something that will ease the burden on my wallet at the pump. I work about 24m from my house and the Pilot doesn't really suck down gas but it does eat a good portion during the week and I normaly have to fill up every Friday(Payday). So here are my three choses and reasons behind them. 1) 2001-3 S2000 - I dont want a sports car, I NEED a sports car. If I dont get one now, before my wife really gets on my case about having kids, then I am never going to get one. And this is the only roadster I would own. 2) 2001 Perlude Type SH - 200hp 2.0l H22A4 with ATTS. They say 22mpg city and 30mpg HW. I know I could do better than that (I currently get 19mpg cty with the Pilot). So good gas milege, sort of sporty and still a Honda. Oh and it has back seats so in "Theroy" a car seat could go back there. 3) 2008 Triumph Thruxton - Once I sell the Norton I am not going to have a bike to ride. This in my book is a big no no. A Bike is just one tiny notch above the driving with the top down feeling. Nothing beat being on the open road riding a Motocycle. I know this is an s2000 forum and opinions are alittle bias but let me know what you think. Also I posted a link to an 02 S2000 in the central section titled "What do you think?" This might be the one I will get if I get one.

I get 28mpg consistantly and rarely drive on what you'd consider a highway.

tell the wife honda s2000 > kids and if she disagrees then shes obviously not the right girl. ha ha just kidding but as much as i hate to say it if your going to have kids something with a back seat is probably a little bit more practical if its gunna be your only car. But no matter what kids take 9 months so in that 9 months u could be falling in love with the car of your dreams and chances are she will probably fall in love with it to then she wont let u sell it
good luck on the s2k hunt

I hate to say this, but if you're going to be a 1 car family, the S2000 is not a good choice. It's pretty impractical. But if it's gonna be a 2nd car, great! If you end up getting one, wait a little while before you buy another bike. I have 3 bikes and have put very few miles on them since I got the "S".

I am going to keep the Pilot and the TL, so this would be a 3rd car or a new bike.

No question about it then. Get the S2000. I'd willingly get rid of all of my bikes for one of these cars and I've been riding bikes for 40 years.

'Jus' somethin' extra ta toss inta the mix Dave: some vehiclez require 91'r better n' some do not. That makes a considerable difference when it'z pump time too.
Even with the small tankz on'a bikez it'z addin'upp. Java

91'r better Dave.
At one time that really didn't matter much, but I've got one bike that'll only take 91 or better n' one slightly older one that'z perfectly happy with 89. I find myself cringin' noticeably when I'm out with the fussier date'n she sayz she'z hungry. Java

WEll, if Jagg can get 28mpg I am sure I can too. So I can get more bang for my buck. But I get left with the same problem now of the Stewie or the 'lude.

jagg, 28mpg? dude, im getting nuthing close to that good. I even tried to stay off the gas and didnt even get 20 mpg. The S wasnt even rated above 26 when it forst came out when they let you put whatever on the window sticker. How are you doin so good? I didnt run heat, or a/c in my test. and drove mostly highway.

I just did a drive from Chicago to Columbus, and I spent a lot of time under cruise control at 75mph. There were parts that were slower, and parts that I got on it to pass, but it was 309 miles with 10.8 gallons, 28mpg.

I'm pretty consistant at 23 MPG. Some get more, others a little less.
At $4.00/gal for the distance you drive, you could figure $40-$45 week to get to work and back. That's still better than you're doing now. |

29.6 is awsome. My wife got 36 in her TL but that was all highway going from here to Mt. Rushmore about an 8hr drive. It also beat out her Parents Odessy where it goes from 6 to 3 cylinders they only got 32 I guess that 6th gear is worth it. Also I have a job interview for a posistion that is not even 2 miles from my house so this debate over which car/motorcycle i might get may soon be over.

Sounds like a commute for a scooter. Two mile trips aren't healthy for cars.
