newbie asks: Required Modifications? Top 5 picks

Hi guys. I'm a motorcycle roadracer who's just about cashed out, so I'm contemplating selling the bike, the rig (see below) and buying a fun daily driver that I can do a little SCCA stuff with on occassion.

Question is, what are the "required" mods for these cars? I'd love to get a few more horsepower, a little bit more control at the limit of adhesion, etc. Back in the Civic days it was as easy as bolting on a set of sticky tires, cold air intake $ exhaust, bumping up the timing, replacing stock spring, shocks, swaybars and bushings and going racing!

What do the S2000s respond well to?

Sorry, I'm sure I can read shit for days if I do a few searches, but save me a minute. List out your top 5 recommended modifications. Thanks!

Well I'm new here too so don't take what i have to say into consideration. But i would suggest a ecu upgrade and put in a Vortech supercharger for some more HP. As for control i guess put a strut bar for the front and rear and get aftermarket suspension kits. If u wanna do more with the s2 i guess u can do some work on the interior, put a body kit on or something like that. Hey it's ur car u decide what to do with it.

depends on speed or controling from going sideways

for speed
i recommend
4.77 gears
comptech supercharger. i don't feel like drilling a hole in my oil pan
comptech reinforce diff
comptech exhaust.
stage 3 clutch
grand total more then a new hayabusa
gears 500
supercharger 3600-4000 used
exhasut 1000
diff don't know
3 clutch probably 1000ish

if you like handling go with a front strut and front lower x cross bar recommended comptech cause if you go supercharger there is no clearance issues
rear strut and 4.77 gears
comptech exhasut
aemv2 intake with bypass valve(prevents hydrolocking
4.77 gears gives good lowend torque

Required?

My recommendation for a first mod is always lighter wheels. This will gain you in ALL performance categories. Next would be a light Ti single exhaust if you don't mind the noise, can save as much as 50lb. Remove the spare, tools. Consider lighter racing seat(s). I guess you get the picture... lighter lighter lighter.

You're not going to squeeze much more than 120hp/L out of this engine if you stay NA, it's not a Civic, it's already been tuned pretty well to maximize the output.

A SC will gain you significant top end, but it won't transform the car into a low and torque monster. If you run a track with long straights it will definitely improve your times.

Strut bars look cool when you're showing off your engine bay, but I've yet to see objective evidence that they do much for this car besides add weight... same goes for any additional pieces of metal you bolt on the car... particularly if they're anodized a flashy color.

I think I"m with you man, and that's part of what's so attractive about this car to me. No mods necessary. It's a good handling, reasonably quick car with Honda reliability and drivability right from the factory, and not much you do to mod it will be worth the sacrifice in reliability/sound/daily driveabity(I don't know how to spell that obviously).

I'm thinking I'll do a set of 17" lightweight wheels and that's about it. Exhaust maybe. They even sit nice and low over the wheels from the factory. Awesome car and not so delicate that I would be too nervous to let my girlfriend drive it.

Got to sell my stupid truck.

What can I tell ya Jagg. Like my Papa used to say,

A wise man considering he had only a 6th grade education.
