Gas Savings, Do the Math...
The price difference between 87 octane and 91 octane gas here in Minnesota is $0.12 per gallon (always has been).
If you do the math, you'll find that the price per mile is cheaper if your car gets just 1 mpg better with the premium when the prices are over $3.50. When gas was $1.50 per gallon range, it took a difference of over 3 mpg between the two octane grades to make it worth while to buy the more expensive gasolines. GAS @ $3.50+ per gallon: MPG Cost/ Cent/ Cost/ Cents/ Gallon Mile Gallon Mile 26 3.65 14.04 3.71 14.27 27 3.65 13.52 3.71 13.74 28 3.65 13.04 3.71 13.25 29 3.65 12.59 3.71 12.79 GAS @ 1.50+ per gallon 26 1.50 5.77 1.62 6.23 27 1.50 5.56 1.62 6.00 28 1.50 5.36 1.62 5.79 29 1.50 5.17 1.62 5.59 (Sorry, but I can't seem to get the above table to print out right in this format, but I generated the numbers in Excel. |

I failed to see the point of this thread. It is what it is. Gas price is ridiculous and we don't get good gas milage on our car.

You don't think 26 mpg is good gas mileage? Tell that to one of those FUV driving Neanderthals...they'd give away their mother to get that kind of mileage (and I get that with a 4.77 diff)

So all we need to do is slow down a little and we would save even more money.

You get 26mpg around the city? I get, without entering VTEC and shifting around 4,500rpm, 21-24mpg, this was very good gas milage 3 years ago!

I get 22-23 no matter what and with the mugen ECU one must run 93 octane.
Best mileage is when car is parked. Jonathan

This has nothing to do with S2000's, but I have to run 100+ octane in my Banshee, and due to the price of premium being what it is, it's actually cheaper for me to burn straight 100LL AvGas than it is to run half premium and half race fuel.

Gas was 25 cents a gallon (or less) up until 1972.
Hmmmmm.........back then, when oil was 7 bucks a barrel, gas was 25 cents a gallon. Using that same ratio, when oil is 120 bucks a barrel, gas should be $4.28 a gallon. Oh crap, that ruined my frickin day. When gas was 25 cents, the minimum wage was $1.25 per hour. So if you made minimum wage, you could get 5 gallons of gas for 1 hours work. At todays gas prices, to get 5 gallons of gas, the minimum wage should be $20 per hour. Just a little jovial trivia to brighten your day! ![]()
