engine question, need some help
Need some help. Recently had the oil changed at local Honda shop. started smelling oil while drivin. Stopped and found the oil cap had not been replaced. I had driven 160 miles since the oil change. Oil is now soaked in the hood insulation and is visable on the engine. Dealer is cleaning the oil off the engine and replacing the hood insulation. My question? Is their any possibilty of engine damage. I only drive a few miles a day and I don't feel as if anything is damaged, but I just don't really know. I only have 8900 miles on my '03. Can anyone help?

Engine Question
First, I would get a different dealer to change my oil in the future or do it yourself. Second, it should be under warranty. Third, have a dealer other than that one check it out. Drive it hard, see how it sounds. If it blows, now is the time to do it while it is under warranty. They are responsible. Document everything. You may need it later. GOOD LUCK!

When your car went back into the dealer, they would have topped your engine oil back up. so you have nothing to worry about. I would have asked for the next service to be free of charge though but too late. If anythin else like that happens again kick up a real fuss and cause a scene, service managers are wimps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FYI.
I know of several instances where the oil cap has been replaced perfectly well bu it has managed to unscrew itself through vibration and came off mid journey. Not suggesting that this happened here though. Just that it can happen. Still complaint to the garage anyway. |
