My plan for getting an s2

well the Honda dealership in my area is selling a used '00 s2 for 16K, i figure i'll wait two years until i go away for skool and i'll trade in the car i have now (a '96 Ford Taurus) and i'll lease the s2 and pay off the rest. Think this might work?

If you're saying you are thinking about waiting two years to go away to school so you can buy/lease a used (or otherwise for that matter) car, then my opinion is that's the worst idea I've heard so far today. no offense. school important. car not that important in the grand scheme of things.

that's why im still thinking about it, in 2 yrs would've come to a final decicsion on the matter and i do agree that skool is important. If i save up money for now i can at least lease it since the skool im going to attend is about 30 miles away (not sure of actually distance) also i felt it would be good to get some info from other car enthusiast.

but how old are you now?
High school? or University?
I am wondering if s2000 would still be in the dealer showroom at that time since next year is the last year isn't?

not that I know the details of the offer (and maybe you don't either) but I've been warned numerous times about leasing a used car.

Whats the problem with 00 or 01 S2000s? By 'leased used cars' do you mean a hire lease agreement on a used S2000?

There are so many things wrong with this thread... where to begin.

To forego school to buy a 4-5 year old performance car with god only knows how many miles and how many past owners as a lease. I don't know that I could come up with a worse scenario. Owning an S2000 goes beyond just making the payments. Where are you going to garage it? Because this isn't the kind of car you just want to park in the street. What about maintenance? This is an out of warranty car that may have been mistreated, and by the price (16K) likely has a ton of miles.

As to what model years to buy. If I were looking used, of course you'd want an 04 with 500 miles, rather than a 00 with 60,000! I tend to agree that the 01->02 switch to glass window, 4 hole oil injector bolts etc. is worth the extra cash.

No-next time you ought to state your plan a little more clearly.

I still don't see whats wrong with buying a used S2000 as a lease. I'm sure I'm going to be shouted down, but I bought my used S2000 and am the 3rd owner - I did get a complete service history and contacted the garages directly to check the details. Also, my S2000 is parked on the street, I don't have a garage. In fact, there are many performance cars parked along my street as not many people around here have garages.

Of course, if cash is no object then the newer model is best, I just don't see the issue with buying a used S2000 as long as you are careful.

I think the discussion really focused on not leasing a used car. I've purchased plenty of off-lease cars...my 98 Prelude was a good example of a good buy. So was the '01 Lightning. If I were to ever consider leasing a used car, I'd insist on a bumper-to-bumper warranty through the life of the lease - just what I got on the Prelude. Certified used cars are the only way to go.

Get back to me the first time someone slashes your top. It's just a question of when, not if. I've not lived in London, I'll admit that, but any big city has haters and criminals.

I apologize that I misunderstood the original post. I guess I couldn't wrap my brain around planning to buy a car in two years, that is currently sitting on a used car lot. I mean, in two years that car will probably have been bought and sold at least once more.

I imagine its pretty difficult to slash the top, I expect the paintwork will get keyed (again) at some point, thats much easier to do. Crap happens, it was keyed the other day in a car park. *shrug*

I don't see the point of not getting the car you want, just because you don't have a garage. Thats almost as bad as having a great car and not using it.

Ouch! Well, if that ever happens again, you can get the top and install it yourself for <800 bucks. I don't know who's worse, the guy who did that to your top or the dealers who rape you for over 2 large to fix it

I got a similar story with Stephanie
I have leased my car from
Daddy Bank

I owe him a lot what I did is giving lots of promises

for example"you can drive it anytime you want",
"this is the last time I want something from you"
" I can't consantrate my work"

after all he lend me nearly the half of money but I don't know when I am gonna pay back

but in my countrywe pay nearly 50% taxes
with the same price of a brand new S2000 in here
you can buy a 2004 corvette in USA

oooops sorry I am off-topic
