I know that it depends on how "cool" the guys at the dealership are. Im trading my 01 prelude for my new s2k, and the prelude had tons of aftermarket on it and they still honored my warranty. The best thing to do is go and shoot the shit with the service guys and see what they say. They'll know what they can get done under warranty.

Here's my two cents
Salesman that sold me my s2k told me that if I bought spoon products that they wouldn't void any warranty because those particular items were approved by Honda. I work at a powersports dealership, which is a totally different product line, and aftermarket products are a big seller on the toys we make, and as long as you have a factory authorized tech put your goodies on, then your warranty is ok. Once again, this is a totally different product line.

There is no aftermarket product that Honda will warranty unless it is made by Honda and installed at an authorized dealer... so I'm talking about the crappy rims the dealers sell for base civics and accords. Not spoon, not Mugen, not Comptech, none of them. As an aside, did you know that if you buy a Mopar Stage I,II,III etc kit for your SRT4 that it voids the entire powertrain warranty? Well, it does.
If a dealer tells you otherwise, then what they are saying is if, in the future, American Honda (AHM) refuses a claim you have, the dealer will pick up the tab. If this is indeed their position, I'd get it IN WRITING. In general, if you have a warranty claim that is unrelated to an aftermarket part (say your radio breaks after you put on an intake), AHM should in theory still pay for the repair. But, as you can imagine, this is a grey area. Suppose you have a rear diff fail and you have larger wheels/tires? AHM could deny the claim saying that the oversized tires put unexpected wear on the diff... pay up sucka! Why not wait until your car is out of warranty and then it's your problem anyway, so mod it as much as you want? |
