Cool Alright, Test pipe opinions needed

So, I am kind of wanthing to do something else to my car, and I just got my emmissions tested, so I won't have to worry about that for a couple years. So I am thinking I want to get a test pipe. What are your opinions? Is it worth the $60-$100? Is there REALLY any gain at all? Does it really make your existing exhaust a lot louder? My current is a pretty deep sound, but only actualyl loud at vtec... Let me know Thanks.

I have an older Tanabe Catback, and a custom resonator. It sounds a little deeper, and a lot quieter than the Invidia, but a similar tone.

I have one and have had it for years. Some people complain about a smell, but I don't smell anything.

My experience with the TP was,it was great for a few weeks then it got tiresome. The sound with my Invidia was rice and every time I stopped, I got foul smelling exaust fumes.

I'm not really worried about the exhaust fumes, I do run with my hard top most of the time, and when I don't I really don't think I will care about the fumes. -All of my friends have them on their S's, Z's, and STI's so that's not a problem for me.

I did notice that the last few times I went on drives with other S's, that they just seemed to pull a little harder than me. One was stock with a
Test Pipe only, and one was stock with Exhaust and Test Pipe only. On the on ramps and up hills they just seemed to have a little more 'oomph' than me.

I really just want to know if the mojority thinks it sounds ricey, and if they think you get any worthwhile power gains?

I don't know if I was influenced by the sound but my S felt like it had better throttle response with the TP.
I guess it makes sense. The engine is breathing easier without the obstruction of the cat.

I've noticed that it helped out with the vtec crossover point. Its a bit more smooth and feels like it pulls a little more there.

'Never messed with Stewie'z exhaust, so the only thing I've got to go by is some past experience with other vehicles'n, when the situation presented itself ('cat went south, cut-outz were gettin' installed, exhaust work wuz bein' done) I usually opted for eliminatin'em.
But in none of those catless ridez did I ever once notice anything worth writin' home about power-improvementwize.
So, I godd'a vote OTHER: 'wouldn't doo'itt 'cause I don't believe it's worth the time'n trouble.

To be honest, I've tried gutted catalytic converter and testpipe on stock exhaust. I didn't really feel the different. Maybe there was, but too insignificant that you can't feel.

As far as sound, it does sound a bit louder, but you can't really notice it until 3500rpm or above.

The part I hated about running the testpipe is the smell. If you left the engine running for like 2 or 3 minutes in the garage, even while it open, you really smell it when you step out. I sold both the testpipe and gutted cat on here. So you know I am speaking from experience. LOL

Overall, I don't think it worth it. If it is sound that you are seeking, I would suggest you get an exhaust instead of a testpipe.

Wel Java, one of the other reasons I'm thinking about this is - I have something loose on my exhaust, and I need to change where the hangers are at on the mufflers bc they are sticking out too far in the back. So I'm going to have it up on a lift to do this, so I figured I might as well do it all at once...

I think it's a placebo. The car may sound different, so you think it's faster. I'd like to see dyno sheets showing a gain by ONLY removing the converter.

And don't forget that if you are caught tampering with a catalytic converter on a street driven vehicle it is a felony with a fine of $2,500.00. Not really worth it.

"All of my friends have them on their S's, Z's, and STI's" Hi SXY, How do your friends make out with emissions? Do they leave it on and pass or do they swap it back for testing?

Don't forget, they have to prove YOU did it... But good point for those afraid of court.

We should have a poll for speeding since the majority of this poll seems to obay the law. Guess none of those people exceed the speed limit either

Maybe,
If you bought the car used. If you are the orginal owner and tamper they will own your A$$ as I don't think you would be able to convince them that the "test pipe troll" stole your car, took it to a muffler shop, removed your CAT, put on a test pipe and returned your car while you were sleeping!

Why would the "test pipe troll" need to take it to a muffler shop? He seems more than capable than doing it himself and pocketing the money.
