Just got a black 03 S2000, and need tips.

Im 16 years old and my dad just bought me a 03 S2000, but I don't even know how to drive stick yet. I wanted the Sti for so long that I didn't even look at S2000 until I got one. Can anyone give me any tips on how to care and watch out for with my new car. Thanks.

drive it

damn dude, i wish my family was like yours, anywho... the car can be driven hard. i drive it like it's stolen. though, the clutch is the given point. so don't ride it. it's really a great car, just keep oil in it, and i mean check every gas fill up. some burn, some don't, but be cautious. also, rear tires are a concern, but screw it, what the fun if you can't turn hard. this is not a off the line car, (it will surprise) but highway and cornering are it high points. enjoy. :P

one more thing

i owned a 91 mr2 turbo, tokico all the way 10,000 in upgrades, and that thing never got loose like this car in turns. although i think it has alot to do with the fact that this s2000 is going faster without the feel, so be careful she will get loose in a hard turn, alot like a mid engine. but let it go, it will turn on it's center. no curbs.. so watch it's threshold and learn it! i have hit many a curb learning it's limits. but once learned, it's fun to take a friend and let them shake.....

Congrats!
I hope you have a level head. That car is more powerful than you think. Respect it and it will reward you. The steering is razor sharp and the rear end will come around with power oversteer. If you feel the rear end coming around back off the gas, but DO NOT hit the brake! The rear will straighten out.

Below 6000 rpms you're ok. The car makes its power in the high revs. Watch your downshifts. The 6 speed trans is the jewel of the auto industry but people have been known to shift from 6th to 3rd. The revs go through the roof. Be especially careful in the rain or when the road is wet. Smooth is fast.

Be Smart, Have Fun!

I definately agree with the last post. I have to say, be especially careful in the wet. Hitting VTEC at 6000rpm or even at lower rpm can cause "snap oversteer" very quickly and have you looking back the way you came before you know what happened.

I reckon it is good (once you have learnt the gears and clutch properly) to take the car out at a time of day where there are no cars on the road, in the wet, and at low speed on corner with a lot of room, punch the accelerator in a low gear and see what happens. Just make sure you can't hit anything! I do this in an industrial area where the roads are huge and there is not a car in sight after business hours. It really is a good thing to know how it feels to lose grip and how to handle the car when it does. The s2k can be quite sensitive and needs respect.

All that said, go do a driving course! They will teach you all these things properly. Also, after you have done it, don't get too cocky with your abilities.

Learn the car and have awesome fun doing it!

Drive safe guys!
