Smile Advice on buying S2K

Hey Guys,

So after college, graduate school and getting a job, I'm finally ready to buy an S2000!

My current situation:
1998 Honda Accord V6 @95k miles;
Modded suspension, brakes, rims and tires.
Tranny dying (notoriously bad track record for the 6th gen auto's in these cars).

Basically I need a replacement for my commuter car, but something a lot more sportier, lighter, and fun. I thought the S2000 fit the bill.

From my online researching. I've figured out kinda what I want, but just wanted to run it by the S2000 community if I got the general picture right.

My current budget is about $17k (for the car only). I'm looking for a near mint condition, low-mileage AP1 in White. Planned future modifications: coilovers, strut/sway bars, tires, rims, brakes, and a Black/CF hardtop.

I've been looking on Craigslist in the SF Bay Area, but haven't seen very few cars that have caught my eye.

I was wondering if I could get some advice on:

a) Where to look for a used s2k?
b) When I do find one, what to look out for?
c) Any info that a newbie buyer/owner would miss out on. (Other than the Rear Glass)

Welcome. Don't know where you are, but there have been a few good buys on the for sale site here. The V6 Accords are hard on the automatic trannys.

Your price range should get you a nice 2002. I found one out here on the west coast with 25k miles for $18000 over a year ago. Found it in the Auto Trader. You might check Emmons or possibly Kelly Blue Book.

Take your time and find a good one. Spend a few $ and get it checked out by a good Honda Mechanic.

Good luck, keep us informed.
