Rattling sound when accelarating??

Hi guys,

I have a 2000 model which I have had since March, & have just recently started hearing a strange rattling sound coming from I think underneath the car or possibly from the engine when accelarating hard in 2nd/3rd/4th gears. I have no idea what this could be!

Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm really embarrassed to say it, but I have this noise, too. When topping off my oil I dropped my filler cap and it snuck down the backside of the engine to lodge squarely on top of my transmission between the tunnel and the bell. I replaced the cap but have not been able to retrieve my annoying noisemaker.

I'm pretty anal about tightening my oil cap but apparently not anal enough for the vtec. My wife and I were hittin' the twisties and I smelled what I thought was diesel from a tractor in a field. The smell followed me for miles. When we got to our destination, I popped the hood. The oil cap was gone and there was (thank God) only minor spillage of oil. I could see it peeking at me from the top of the tranny and no way was I able to reach it with my hand. I drove the driver's side up an angled retaining wall at the winery we were at (the people there must have thought I was drunk) and crawled under the car. Me with 2 thin, long sticks under the S and my wife coming in through the engine bay with 2 sticks, we managed to finagle the cap off of the tranny and then with the deftness of a master Japanese chef, she "chopsticked" the cap up through the engine bay. I always crank it down pretty damn good now.

this is a great reminder of what vtec can do. this is not unheard of. if you torque the oil cap down like it should be, it is difficult to unscrew: so be it.

the oil filter can also come loose so make sure that you follow the directions or torque it to the proper spec. there is a special tool to torque oil filters. just make sure not to over do it or you can have another problem.
