price for a 2000my S2000

I found a grey S2000 for sale today.

Its a model year 2000, with 14000 miles, and appears to be in great shape. It was raining so I didn't take it for a spin, but I started it and it seems to run great.

They are asking $15k. Any comments on this price?

Also, any important insights as to model year for the AP1s? (or, for that matter, the AP2 cars).

At that mileage it's just breaking in. The only downside is the plastic window, but that can be fixed. Some have posted about a buzzing in the clutch for the early cars. If it drives well, it's a good price.

I bought a low mileage '00 car a year or so ago, and that's a better deal than mine was.

It would pay to look into it's lineage a bit (owner use/abuse) as best you can, but a low mileage car is a nice plus.

I'm ok with plastic rear windows, as that's all I've ever known.. If you get it, look into the history of the car (via VIN#) to find out if any recalls have been addressed. There have only been a few, but they're worth looking into...

well carfax (this is my first carfax, btw, i'm behind the times) says its had 2 owners, doesn't list any problems at all.

I don't mind the color, even if it isn't white. I think I'm going to buy that sucker pending a test drive. Last chance to slap me.

Thats a good deal! you should buy it. I have a 2000 with 15k miles on it and I have people affering me more than that often. I mean the cars not called a s2008. So my thinking is if they were to ever be worth something years from now, The first year would be the one to have. (just my uneducated opinion) No problems with my gearbox, only the rear plastic window. (fogged up)

Guys, gals,

I took the car for a test drive, and a couple of things popped up. First, the brakes were sluggish, they didn't yank speed down as aggressively as it seemed they should have. Thats probably no big deal, some new pads, etc.

Second, whenever the car was engine braking - in gear but decelerating - it made a grinding kind of noise that iddn't seem natural or healthy. Is that a first-year tranny demon coming up after all these years of being barely driven?

It shifted as superbly as I remember other S2Ks, and this is plain and simple hands down the finest transmission/driver interface of any car I have ever been in. But the grinding did not sound right at all.

It revved freely, was quick, seemed to be solid in the motor department. Just the gearbox growling...

thoughts?

I'd take it a local Honda mechanic and have them look at it. I prefer an independent shop that just works on Hondas.

Could it have been gear whine, or was it a definite grinding sound? I would get them to drain the gear boxes and look for metal. Refill with Honda MTF and a proper oil in the diff. Then try it again.

Good deal man. Jump on it.. Make sure it has a clean tittle. That is extremely low miles.. I also got mine with very low miles and its also a 2000. The owners were from the FL keys.. Now she has close to 30000 on the clock.. G/L.

Private or Dealer sale, pay the $ 100 for a Honda shop as the Doc says and get her checked out. It just might be the best $100 you'll even spend.

As to the noise was it grinding or buzzing? The springs in the original clutch disc buzz on deceleration loudly around 3-4k. It may be annoying but it is not causing any damage. In some cases like mine, Honda replaced the disc but it wasn't necessary.

Hey gents. Its a dealer sale, but not a honda dealer. Local reputable used car lot.

The noise may be described as buzzing -vs- grinding. It wasn't normal sounding gear whine, however.

The dealer took it to the local honda dealer, then called me and said the dealer reported that the noise was normal and "coming through the exhaust". It wasn't coming through the exhaust, and it was a mechanical noise.

If you guys were me would you take it to the honda shop yourself, or would you take their word for it? I'm leaning take it myself.

I would take it to a Honda dealership in a heartbeat. Sounds like it could be a great deal and worth the effort to find out. But in the absense of knowing, I'd run.

Yeah, I freaked out when I heard that on my S when I first got it. Downshifted coming down a steep hill and "BZZZZZZZ". Thought I was gonna lose the tranny. My mechanic told me about the TSB on the clutch plate springs. I don't even notice it now.

Its right about now thast the big staff comes out and pulls you off the stage. Of course take it to the Honda dealer yourself, pay the money and be done with it.
If the dealer your buying from is trying to miss lead you about the report, deception might run thick and fast..............get it !
Or get a warrenty from the seller.........if its no problem to him then it should'nt be a problem to cover it for warrenty.
