The concept car.
Hi there.
I just bought the new 2004 model 6 months ago and i'm just recently visiting the net. I aways loved the s2000 from the day it came out but i never saw the concept car until now on this website. Why did they change it??? It looked incredible! Almost like a ferrari! What do you think? |

According to the magazines ect. its because its too sporty, ppl can not accept that kind of characteristic of the car, so every year Honda mod it to suit more ppl. Since Honda beleives that a more of a road car will defenetely catch more buers and make the car to fit the bigger market. So basically its b/c its revenue driven ....

Yes, i can understand that.
But the lotus elise and Opel/vauxhall speedster are more hardcore by looks and yet you can see them more often on the road. At least where i live. I think Honda got a big marketing problem with their sportscars. At the time only enthusiasts knew of the s2000 when it came out. And now with the Nissan 350Z and Mazda RX8 it's hard to miss the adds. |

I like it when you don't see many S2k's it makes our car a little exclusive.

I totally agree. I hate driving anything thats a "me too" kind of car. If you can sit at a stoplight and count 3 or more of the same car at the same intersection, I'd rather not be sitting in one of them. Just my .02...

Other than sales brochures and a generic Honda ad that featured all manner of Hondas (including their F1 car, a lawmower a few bikes), there has been almost zero marketing of this car. Go back to the issues of R&T or C&D when the S2000 was first being test driven.. no ads. Given that, it is almost amazing the magazines have liked it as much as they did.
Usually, mag ratings are very closely tied to the advertising revenue for a particular make. For example, in comparison tests, the newest model, regardless of whether it is really better than the older ones will get all the good press. This is because the newer models will be advertised more heavily. You read comparos of the 350 when it cameout and it seemed to shine like nothing that's ever been seen before. Now that it's been out a few years and the advertising is waning, the shortcomings of the car (weight, crappy steering feel) are beginning to be written about. |

I heard the headlight were to low for the US market, which I think is the sexiest part of that concept. (PERSONALLY)..... And I really think Honda wanted to tie closer to the original heritage of the S500,S600, and S800. Not just make the S2000 a new car, but an evolution of it's little brothers.

My uncle did ride an s800 in the days and said it was difficult to keep it in a straight line.
And he wasn't drinking. Cars from the past didn't weigh that much and were nimble at cornering. The s2000 isn't to bad either and is in my opinion only beaten with cars like the lotus elise if you compare cars from that category and price. But not on all types of corners thankfully. The s2000 would have even better stood the test of time if it took over the alluminium and lighter chasis from the concept car. It was for years better then a porsche boxter for pefomance and handling but now with the new posche boxter S it's getting some beating. But the porshe boxter S has a hefty pricetag though. |

I must say it doesn't look that beautiful anymore as i saw the concept car first time around.
With the headlights it looks a bit like that volvo concept car a few years back. So i guess the final model did age well. |

RC;
Thanx. I'd never seen it before. Maybe it'd be unique to have because it's different than that S2, but I think the road-going S2 looks better. Again, with the disclaimer that the aforementioned was my personal opinion. |
