cold rev. limiter anyone

cold rev. limiter,i have noticed that when the engine temp. gauge only shows two bars or less and you attempe a quick accelaration a soft rev. limiter will engage, at 7k rpm.this on a 04v model.has any one else seen this?

This is a designed feauture. I'm surprised you can get it to 7000 b/c it should not even be able to engage the VTEC cam until warmed up.

You should not let the engine get anywhere near 7000 until its warmed up. Warmed up means OIL temperature is at operating temp. Since we have a water temp. gauge, I'd wait until the gauge has been at 3 bars for a couple of minutes before redlining it.

The downside, of course, is that there might be a post on some ricer forums of having beat an S2000 because you can't race until your engine is warm. But, this is worth the trade-off. Remember, the engine has higher piston speeds at redline (well, the F20c does) than an F1 engine.

i know it is bad for the car to take off quick when it isn't warmed up,but once in awhile i'm impatient.i think the vtec tries to kick in but the rev limiter comes on and stops the increase in rpm.the vtec is controled by oil pressure.i don"t know if it also needs an input from the temp sensor.i have only experianced the soft rev. limiter 3 or 4 times in 8k miles.trying not to destroy this toy.

The VTEC engages with a solenoid which is disabled until the engine is completely warmed up.

I wouldn't exactly call it soft. On the 03 model it goes all the way to 7k then totally cuts off all power until it hits 3k once again. This happened to me once on the way to work. I had just pulled out of a crossroad and an idiot coming from the side street never saw the red light. So since I was already half way trough I slammed my foot down on second ... and the jolt was so big that I thought that the maniac had hit me, but nope it was the limiter.
