What kind of GAS?
Hi guys, i bought a year 2000 S2000 with 89,xxx miles on it. What kind of Gas should you guys recommend? 87/89 or 91?
Its a used car, but its my dream car. I am sure i'll try my best to keep it clean. Do u guys think that should i change oil, plugs, filter, gear oil etc......???? Also can u guys give me a guide line to shift the gear from 1 speed to 2nd speed, 3 rd speed, 4th speed, 5th speed & 6th speed. I am also looking for a good mileage because its going to be my daily drive car, & i live in Huston for sure there is always traffic. This is my first rear wheel drive car. Before i used to drive 1997 honda prelude just sold it to get my dream, Also i would like to mention that this web site is awesome and great guide line. Thanks guys. Have fun. |

fuel
Hey man one warnig you should listen to. Do not half step on the fuel.
It calls for Prem., give it Prem. Put cheap gas in it and you will be regretting it later. And buy the gas at the cheapest gas station either. I filled the tank with Mid-Grade and half way through the tank the maint. light started flashing at start-up. O2 Sensors are shot. |

i would inspect the plugs and see what they look like. they are 100k plugs so i doubt its time to change the out yet but take them out and inspect them and see what they look like. if you have no idea when the fluids where changed last it would definatly be a good idea to change them out. use oem trans fluid and oem oil filter when you do the trans fluid change and oil change. i recomend using mobil 1 synthetic 75w-90 for the diff and mobil 1 for the engine oil. and definatly use oem brake fluid when you change that also. as far as shift points go heres what the owners manual says. 1-2: 15mph 2-3: 25mph 3-4: 40mph 4-5: 47mph 5-6: 52mph good luck with the car i live in houston also and there is nothing but traffic on any day in houston but i follow the shift points in my 02 and i get any where from 23-24 city and 28-30 highway. here the link to the online owner manual. https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/...000MAINIDX.pdf Last edited by penaj778; 10-15-2008 at 11:29 AM. |

i have put kroger fuel in my cars for many years, and have had no problems. i used chevron before then (stopped when the kroger opened a gas station). there is no difference in performance and my engine will not last longer on chevron fuel. if you maintain your car, and treat it appropriately, it will last a very long time.

I'm not so sure if i have even learned how to drive my S2K fuel efficiently yet... I just love hearing VTEC scream out of my Apex'i single out let N1 muffler... That's what keeps me going lol. but now i am happy that now i know the shift time for fuel saving cause long trips killed me man.

I typically only use Costco premium fuel. I would put this in the discount gas category.
I have been reading up on the reason for using a "main brand" like Shell and what the benefits are. This website, which is apparently endorsed by Honda and a few others, tells which retailers to use. http://www.toptiergas.com/index.html What does anyone think about this? I still filled up at Costco again last night since it was way cheaper than the other stations. Also has anyone else noticed the price descrepancy between regular and premium ... it used to be like $0.10 - $0.15 for every gas grade increase, now its like at least $0.30. (I'm in Central Virginia) |

The main thing is to buy gas from a busy station. That insures that you are getting fresh fuel. Also condensation can build up in tanks and you'll get some water with the fill up .

...and if you see the semi truck refilling the station's tanks (and stirring up the sediment at the bottom) go somewhere else!
