Passenger Air Bag.
Has anyone installed a Passenger Air Bag Switch? Where did you buy it, are you happy with it and what did it cost?
I have three kids that will want a ride in Daddy's new Toy. I pick up my 01 S2K this Saturday. |

There is a great "thread to end all threads" on this subject at www.s2ki.com, it is in the FAQ stickys. I'd post a link to the precise location at that site, but right now the forums section of that site must be down. However, you will find it I am sure. You will also see a discussion on which children's booster seat works best for the S2000 seats.
Apparently, there is a Honda OEM switch, but you have to get some form from the NTSB or some federal agency, then find a Honda dealer that will agree to install it, and then send the form to Honda, and Honda will send the OEM part to that dealer. The switch control is mounted in the "secret compartment" but there is a cheesey plastic warning light that they mount on the passenger side dash that looks terrible. Most people appear to be happy with it, but IMO, all of the hassle, expense and then having an ugly plastic box mounted on your dash, and given that my kids really will not be riding in the s2000 that often, it was not worth it. In fact, my wife and I enjoy the S2000 because it is "our" car and not another car full of kid junk etc. As things stand, my kids like to help me wash the S2000, and then as their reward I drive each around our subdivision at less than 30mph. That is enough for them, they really would not appreciate or understand the vtec experience. My s2000 is our 3rd car, so I do not need to transport kids in it, but I can see why someone who must drive in traffic with a young child as a passenger might think the hassle, expense, etc. is worth getting the airbag kill switch installed. Good luck! |
