buying a s2k from overseas

hi guys, im new to this forum and thought I'd say hi to everyone. I also have a question, forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I have inquired about several s2000's over the internet and most people respond that they live in either london or greece. They say that they will arrange for the shipping at no charge but that they either 1) need a deposit first and I can pay the shipping company the full amount after I inspect the car or 2) want to do payment via 3rd party over the internet. So does this sound like a scam or are these ppl legit? does anyone know anything about payment via 3rd party? is it safe?

Total and 100% scam. No question about it. They will take your deposit and run.

One ebay listing actually had the car from an S2ki.com member who wasn't selling their car. The lister had clearly just taken the picture from the forums and used it from their ad.

Buy the car from a reputable dealer in your area.

flaxenfilly;
Totally agree with halo (usually do). Recently I was looking for an S2 for a friend and twice I ran into cars overseas that came with "baggage" that muddied the waters to the point of my feeling uncomfortable with the deal.
Personally, I'm old school n' I put alot of stock in lookin', touchin' n' kickin' the tires. I've just never thought it wise to have the guy who wants to sell me the vehicle do my homework for me. It can commit you to a deal that you wouldn't have considered had you first-hand information.
Check AutoTrader for local iron.
Either way, good Luck.
