Wreck

A buddy of mine wrecked his S2000 going around a corner last weekend and needs some advice. The front driver side fender is bent in where he hit a post (folded in at least 6 inches behind the wheel), the front bumper cover will also probably need to be replaced as it is buckled and cracked a bit, and the hood has some scrapes and a small dimple dent (about like a baseball hit it). He's thinking maybe $1500 to fix it but I told him to be prepared for more since it is a new car (2005 model). The frame and everything else looks OK so as wrecks go, it is relatively minor damage, but I don't see any way to get around replacing the entire fender and front bumper cover and any bent attaching points underneath.

Does anyone have any advice? If he goes through his insurance company, will his rates go up that much? He said he was going to pay to get it fixed out of pocket but then I asked him why he has insurance if he can't use it. Not sure what to advise him there. Also, do any of you guys/gals have any advise on where to get parts like fenders and bumper covers? Are parts like that readily accessible for the S2000? Are they expensive?

Any advise at all will be helpful.

Thanks,
Mike

I don't know the cost of the parts in US but if it comes until the hood

1.500dolar X 4 cuz if you hit from the wheel it eccefts everywhere under the car

probably the chassis of the car is bent as well

I'm sorry mate good luck

Thanks. I think the frame is probably OK. It really looks like the fender just got crumpled in with no other real damage other than the bumper cover that tore a little scraping the ground. Looks can be deceiving I know, so hoping for the best...

i dun think is that easy though, normally u can't tell if other parts for example the chasis is bent or not, its better to have it checked. and often the alignment will need to be adjusted too.. it is not worth going through the insurance company, because whatever u made them pay, they will get it back, just longer time, like maybe 10-15% every year for 7 yrs etc...

Sorry to hear you got hurt. I don't have the car and can't offer any first hand experience, but I don't know that you can make a conclusion about a car on the basis of one accident report though. Accorting to NHTSA crash tests, the car appears to do well at least on their "standardized" tests as far as safety.

Sorry about the news, A new one at that.
Also sorry that your estimate is probably about 4000 low. The front bumper cover,c/w paint is about 1500 alone.
Unfortunately this is not a civic. Parts are rare for a 05 model. Because of the model year, new parts will be available only.

good luck.
