Custom Exhaust?
I just recently bought a 2003 S2000. I don't know much about cars, but i am steadly trying to teach myself. I wanted to know if it is possible to have the exhaust exit in front of the passenger rear wheel? If so, are there any kits to do this or websites to check out products to do this.
I havent seen to many S2000 with exhaust like this, but it reminds of the old Shelby Corbra days that my dad talks about. Any ideas would be much appreciated. |

I don't think there are exhausts like this for the S2k.
The problem will be ground clearance and it will ruin your paintwork. |

You would have to check with your local state laws regarding the position of the exhaust. Some places only allow the exhaust to exit from behind the driver.
Whilst anything is possible with money, the exhuast system has a catalytic convertor, if you remove this you will probably be in breach of emissions laws and be defected. You would also have to fool the car ECU to think that the sensor is still working. Ifyou don't, then you would have to either mount it somewhere else, or run the pipes down and then back up (which seems to be a waste). You would also have no room for a muffler, and therefore be pulled over for being too loud. If you did manage it, have fun breathing all the exhaust fumes. |

There certainly is no kit like you describe. Most of the cars with side exhaust have V configuration engines (V8 most commonly) with the manifold from each bank feeding into a resonator then to a pipe out the side. The muffler (if you can call it that LOL) is that large canister that runs along the whole side of the car. If you've ever heard a Shelby Cobra fire up (even a repica with a big block V
Ayway, you could have a custom piped exhaust take the fumes from the (single) manifold on the right of our engine block, and out the side. I don't see much room down there to fit any of the required parts to be street driven (cat, mufflers) but it could be done with custom hangers and such. Would be a cool project as long as you didn't want it to be street legal. Also, watch your legs when you get out because those pipes on the side of Cobras also get pretty hot! |

Ahh of course - for some reason I was thinking he wanted to end the pipes as soon as they come out the sides and in front of the wheels.
I guess I should read more carefully :/ So just ignore everything I posted above. I'd love an old Shelby Cobra |

Thanks guys, i'll look more into it. I was thinking about having come out the passenger side, but as was said would be hard to fit the converter and muffler. Wouldn't be too efficent in pulling it to the driver's side either.
Ah well, guess i'll just do it with my Falcon. Was looking for a way to make my S2000 stand out a little. Thanks for the tips |

From what I've seen of the S2s I believe that your biggest problem is going to be clearance in the areas that you want to exit from under the car. There ain't alotta that to be found anywhere on the car.
I wonder if all the hoops that you're gonna hafta jump through are gonna be worth the results. I just don't think it's gonna improve your engines breathing. But one neva know . . do one? |
