Try doing a 6500 to 7500rpm take off... if your wheels dont spin, then you have a problem..

Are you just "dumping" the clutch ie taking your foot off as fast as you can? or are you slipping it as if you were taking off slowly like in traffic.
Are you getting a burning smell after you try these take-offs? A slipping clutch would cause your revs to rise without the wheels spinning or the car accelerating. |

I think hardtopguy.com has a deal on a pretty good clutch. You could at least get the parts there if you need a new one and not have to pay sales tax (unless you're in Ohio or wherever Ganley Honda is). This is not going to be warranty work so you can take it to any qualified mechanic, preferably one that has done a few S2000 clutches.

i don think they will even look at it if u tell them that u dump it at 6500, since it is stock clutch it is very normal to slip at high rpm ... and ofcourse if under this condition when the car is not even in motion...

As "burnin' rubber" is horsepower (and tires, gas n' all drive parts involved bein' overly abused to the tune of your $$$$) goin' down the crapper, none of it translatin' into quicker starts, but since it's wasted, slower starts than the car is actually capable of, . . are you sure that wheelspin is what you really want to accomplish?

Burning out to test a clutch is not really thje best idea. Try this. These are safe good ways to test the clutch for slipping. First drive in 3rd gear and down shift but when you downshift like you would to slow down shift so the rpms go high. If you the you should feel the nose pull down and if it slips alittle you will know. Also find a hill put the car in a higher gear and go up it if your clutch is bad it will slip.

If you've been doing it a lot and slipping the clutch each time then it's possible that you have already done enough damage to the clutch, and maybe the flywheel as well, to make it VERY hard to get any kind of wheelspin.
Get it in the shop and get the clutch checked. They will probably find a lot of heat damage. Engine revving, wheels not spinning, accompanied by a smell like cat's pee = Not Good ! |
