bars code ??
It seems AP1 owners are using ~4 bars as normal operating temp of the coolant?? Can someone tell me if that translates into ~7bars on the AP2 dash gauge??? And what does that mean as far as actual deg. F?
Anybody using cooler thermostat?? Thanx for the help.

I have had it at four while at the track and up to five at the end of a run. Not recommended though.

i have driven five AP2 2007 models and the temp gauge is at eight bars at normal operating temperature. it is hard to count those little suckers too, but i have done it multiple times.
i do not know the actual degree of operating temp. why use a cooler thermostat?

Here's a comparison between the stock gauge display and the standard Modifry ECT display. The numbers indicate the temperature at which each segment lights up. As you can see, the stock gauge lights the 8th segment for any temperature between 178 and 225, which is a pretty wide range. It also provides readings out to 273° which is far higher than you'll ever see and a waste of gauge resolution.
The Modifry version narrows the "normal" range to between 180 and 205, the temperature encountered in 95% of daily driving. Beyond that it lights up one additional segment for each 5° above "normal". This provides earlier warning of an overheat condition without causing undue fluctuation in the gauge. Plus, now you'll know what the actual temperature is, not just "I think it's hot". You can see some more gauge displays here comparing the stock and Modifry displays. ![]() Thanx T6- from your posted link

I have a Mugen low temp thermostat, a SPA temp gauge in the upper water hose and an Apexi Imoni which reads the temp right off the obdII port. My SPA gauge reads about 4 degrees lower than the Imoni. The thermostat opens at about 185 and closes at about 170-175. And 3 bars are showing on my AP1.

whats funny is the ads for these stats have to be written by people hoping the buyers dont know how stats work.
they ALL slowly open at a certain temp and fully open by a certain temp. thats just how they work. the spoon / mugen ads ive read seem to make people think the OEM stat just pops open at 88dC / 190dF

Hey T6-- now I'm intrigued... how many folks here have switched to the Modifry thing to get the new gauge readout??? Seems logical in reading, but is it worth it unless you're in extremely hot climate or tracking the car?? Should this be moved to racing or other thread??

You've gotta beat the tar out of an AP1 to see more than three bars on the gauge. (so....if you see more than four bars under normal driving conditions, you know something is wrong.)
