cold air intake
Hey everyone.. I've had my s2k '02 model for about 2wks now almost 1k miles.. I love it..
I have been looking at cold air intakes. Obviously AEM is a big name, but I came across PRM Racing. Does anyone have info or experience with this brand? Any significant gains? How does it sound? I love how the s2k sounds with a cold air intake, sounds real mean!! Any help. Thanks |

the prm simply has the loudest sound, but it is not a cold air intake. aem is but not as loud.

I just hear alot about hydro locking with some these intakes because the filter is moved outside of the engine compartment. When I saw the PRM, it looked more of a short ram (staying withing the compartment). I would probably get the aem adn put a bypass on it, as my biggest concern is hydrolocking.. I use my s2k almost as any everyday driver, so it will be going through some heavy rain.
thanks for the info. |

I got a comptech onw but it doesn't sound like AEM
I guess they gave the same performance I am afraid I couldn't make any sense well AEM has a great sound but comptech doesn't have cuz comptech is in a box the disadvantage of aem if the flood comes or something like that it would suck the water to the engine but comptech wouldn't do that cuz it doesn't go till under the car I hope this time people could get what I mean |

Hydrolock is only a problem if the bottom of the filter element is actually SUBMERGED in water. Some CAI's re-route the intake quite low behind the passenger wheelwell, but you still need to be driving through some deep water before it gets submerged. Other than sound, real world gains are mostly just claims by the manufacturer. Nothing wrong with liking the sound tho

Any opinions on that one?
It seems with that shape it comes out where it gets most air. Or do you need to take a peace out of the front bumper? |

Thanks for the info.. I've seen this intake, but doesn't look like any of the CAI's that I have seen besides on this site. Does it attach to the stock airfilter box?

You don't need to take a piece out you're front bumper, but you will have to cut or remove the stock airguide.
This page shows some pics of the stock airguide http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php...=274942&st=425 If you remove it you can always buy a radiator cooling plate with a hole for the CAI. Yes you use this one with the stock airbox. |

the air duct above, is the same style as a spoon, i guess u can get that and then buy a spoon (sponge) filter. but removing the stock piece guide will make ur engine dirty

The intake extension shown here does work very well. I used to have one similar myself.
Honda have done a VERY good job with the design of the air box. The only trouble with it is where they decided to draw the air from. Right above the radiator. This will supply colder air from behind the grill which will help greatly when the right foot goes down. If it's more noise your after then this won't help. A PRM is most certainly one of the best noise makers available. I had one of these too for a while. Easiest way to get more noise is to simply take the airbox cover off. This won't do any harm, and will sound very cool. You may well notice a slightly reduce response though. It will reduce the bhp by a few points. For the best, in terms of BHP gains, I would recommend a mugen carbon fibre air intake. Sadly it's also one of the most expensive. (I now have one of these. ... Although it's a cheaper copy from ebay. ( Hi muz.... Long time. |
