This has gotta be illegal
I know this is gonna sound like one of those "I've got a 2003 Baluga n' a 2004 Garganzola in my garage", but I actually do have a pair of Yamaha R1s in my garage (at least until I can sell one of 'em) n' since I picked up my S2 they ain't come outa the garage once. I keep thinkin' that maybe 'cause it's hot I don't wanna put on the leather n' the helmet . .
but I startin' to suspect that ain't got nothin' to do with it. I'm ridin' aroun' with the top down n' if I smiled any harder the top of my head would fall off. I could get used to this. I could REALLY get used to this. |

If you have the money why not buy yourself an ariel atom?
It's open and it's faster then a bike in the bends. The fastest version goes 0-100km/h in 2.9 sec in a straight line. But it should need a front window to not wear a helmet. http://www.arielmotor.co.uk/ |

Thanx for the suggestion RC, but mine is anything but a case of "havin' the money". If I was wise, which I definitely am not, I woulda unloaded one of the R1s first. But I didn't n' until I do I'll be eatin' pasta fazoola for a while.
But you stumped me with that Ariel thingy. I'm gonna hafta look it up. Be well n' thanx. |

This link comes from a Topgear episode when the atom goes head to head with a CBR600RR.
Really worthwhile to download. Cheers. http://www.openwheelers.com.au/video...ll_segment.mpg |

Heh. I came from bikes too. My last ride was a Yamaha R6. It was time to grow up and move to a car and my buddy who rode a YZF600 said that the S2000 was about as raw and close to a bike I could get. Before that I never would have considered this car because I wrongly assumed that it had the Civic ricer culture around it and I really didn't want any part of that. Oddly, my YZF buddy about 5 months after I got the S wound up in the hospital after a city accident with a car and now drives a Maxima. I'm done with bikes for the rest of my life, glad to have got it out of my system with all four limbs intact

Well, I guess while some us mature n' move on, some of us do not. I'm afraid that I qualify under the "do not" column. Only one R1 will go. Maybe someday (the lady already "suggested" that this might be an opportune time to get out of bikin' altogether, but that just ain' t an option) but, not just yet.
I've always felt that pilotin' a fast bike sharpened your senses n' reflexes. As you have less ability to avoid an obstacle and remain shiny side up, to survive, it made you a better, more aware of your surroundings (road surface, roadside hazard, Volvo) kinda driver. But, as with everything else, that's my opinion. Thanx guys, 'appreciate gettin' to know yas a bit. Be well. |

Long, long ago, in a galaxy (not the Ford) far, far away I was forced to run my Austin Healey in a class that was knee deep in Clubmans (Clubmen?), then known as Lotus Sevens or Super Sevens. They were runnin' cranky little English Fords or once in a while the Coventry motors n' there wasn't a one of 'em that made more than about 70 horse. My Healey was runnin' a blue printed n' balanced 327 Chevy. pumpin' out in excess of 350 horse, so when they told me that I was runnin' against the Sevens I felt like a Rottweiller forced to play with the little dogs. (Somebody shoulda had the decency to clue me that the little dogs were Jack Russells) Those little @*#&ers back then with the boat anchor motors they were runnin' taught me a lesson in humility.
I can't imagine what kinda havoc a Clubman with Honda's S2000 motor could wreak. Scary. Thanx Matt. |

Sorry i didn't really think you were very rich to afford one but with the bikes in your garage i thought you haven't got it that bad. I can't afford one either becausse if i would get rid of my s2000 i would need an other car besides the atom, and with the problems i had with the insurence that didn't came through for me, and that in combination with the fraud i was victim of luck isn't on my side. Lost about the money that could buy me a cheap new car. But besides that, if i had the money the atom should need at least a front window so i wouldn't need to wear a helmet. Maybe an aftermarketwindow if it's possible would be a solution. |

Well, we're talkin' daydreams here, but the with "retro" bein' such a big deal of late, check your history (us old guys can remember it, you young'uns gotta look it up) n' you'll see a really neat minimalist "thumbnail" windscreen that most of the old Brit racin' iron used to run. Really simple. Just a coupla tiny "L" brackets on the bonnet cowling with an iddy-biddy "thumbnail" of plexi to keep most of the bugs outa your teeth. But, as we're just daydreamin' might as well make the brackets n' frame outa unobtanium. 'Gotta love daydreamin'. Be well RC. Java |

Speaking about daydreaming, i wouldn't go amiss in a Brock's coup?. But hey, as long as we can dream life is worthwhile me thinks. Ok, i'll stop for now. And for the atom and wearing no helmet, what about a bit of gravel from a car in front that jumps up that gets between your teeths... It may be handy when you have to go to the dentist and save you some money for the next big dream. |

Back to feelin' like this is probably illegal . . it's been rainin' n' I've been slidin' aroun' every corner I can (hadda make a change of shorts a coupla times) n' now, when it rains I don't feel cheated 'cause I gotta take the car instead of the bike.
Now . . if I can only figure a way that I don't gotta stop the ride when I get to work, n' go to work. Greedy little bugger m' I. Hope you guys r' gettin' in some good rides too. (Oh, damn! Time to go to work!) Be well. |

Hi,
Came across this when sufing the net. http://www.kamalacars.com/kamala-cars.php V6 ford engine, 0-60 in 3,5 sec. http://www.dareuk.com/dz_home.htm Cerainly not to bad and cheaper. They seem to outperform the lotus elise (in astraight line at least) and they're cheaper but i didn't find any reviews, i'm very curious. These cars are a great alternative for the Atom i think and they have a roof and everything else from a normal car. If anyone finds reviews on these cars, please let me know. |

Whew! I only had enough time to glimpse at the photo n' the spec but, you sure's hell tripped on somethin' extremely interestin' RC. Many thanx for sharin' it. I'm lookin' forward to give it a proper read.
(Put this one in your diary folks: Java signin' off in less than a page n' a half) Be well. |

Thanks for the intrest JAVA.
I was posting this on the other s2000 forum from Belgium where the atom was discussed, and was saying that it was propably a great alternative for the atom if they did want the luxury of a closed car. The first reply i got was like "huh.. This got nothing to do with Honda" But these cars resemble what most of the s2000 owners were after, and that's driving pleasure. I don't have blinkers, so that's why i felt for the s2000 instead of a Z4 and porsche boxter. |

Awesome!
If it's got good roadholding and takes the bends like a car and not like an ATV (on 2 wheels) i think it's aproved for me. |

Okay. We're enterin' Lunar Rover territory here. And, for the record, all that follows is personal opinion:
One of the biggest detriments of the motorcycle is the placement of such a big hunka weight (the rider) so high above the center of gravity (CG) Why would anyone incorporate such a negative attribute in a four wheeled vehicle? I've spent a bit of time on bikes, the original Japanese factory trikes and some of the baddest quads n' they're all fun, but if you're goin' after the whole enchilada (as I think is indicated by the choice of wheels, tires and the most obvious ingredient: the WRX mill) it seems to work against the equation to place the operator up ON the thing rather than gettin' that mass down in it. Sometimes you gotta step back every once in a while to assess where it is that your beloved project is heading. In my personal estimation this is somethin' that was interestin' on paper but should never have progressed past that point. |

Chances are, when the boost kicks in, the pilot isn't goin' to be occupyin' that particular space any longer anyway.
Ummm . . . somebody leave a trail of breadcrumbs r' somethin' so we can find our way back to Stewville. Be well. |

I couldn't help myself. 'Hadda go back n' take another look at Quadzeemoto. Y'know . . the main parts are all there for one helluva kick-ass Ariel Atom competitor. N' the workmanship (at least what I can tell from the PR flix) seems pretty good. Too bad the designer got locked onto the quad idea n' jus' didn't take a step back every once in a while.
'Think it coulda been really impressive. But if they ever do a remake of "The Great Race" I think this'd make a good ride for Professor Fate. In basic black of course. Ah, well . . back to all things Stew. Be well. |
