What should I offer for this S2K?

2002, silver/black, 28.3k miles, front spoiler, rear spoiler, hardtop

KBB private party value is about $21.5k. How much should I adjust for the hardtop?

I was thinking $23k?

Any thoughts?

If you offer that, you will definitely get the car

I'd offer 21.5K (basically getting the hardtop for free). The way this works is he's the one advertising to sell the car. You can always go get another used S2000 from someone else. You'll find out how motivated a seller he is.

It is VERY hard to sell a used car for this kind of money privately. Used cars under 10 grand sell quick, but once you get into the 20s the number of buyers drop drastically.

Try to get a mechanic you trust to check out the car for any obvious problems (worn clutch, brakes, compression test if possible).

Honestly, I would like a red or blue S2K. But, I saw the hard top for sale along with this one which is making me consider the silver. The hard top is attractive to me because if I go out to a bar late at night, It's nice to not come back and find the top sliced open.

I have seen a lot of good deals on gently used S2K's, but not many with hardtops in the deal. That's why I am considering this one. I was going to wait until the fall when the prices drop and availability increases. The hardtop is a selling point for me.

Hey..
I jsut got my 02 3weeks ago.. 19k miles for $20k.. but I think I got an exceptional deal.. I probably would have been willing to go to $21 though.. so I think you can work it a little lower.. I'm with Halo, I would offer 21.5 tops.. for 23k, you can get a nice preowned from a dealer that may give you some kind of warranty along with it...
This owner would only get about 19k (high end ) if he were to trade it in, so that could be a basis to work off of..
good luck..
