2,400 miles and my first dent!
I had parked my S to the tight right side of my garage the night before, as to protect it from my other car that was going to be used to take several people out.
The next morning, I backed it out to give it a wash, (as I do every Saturday morning) and crunch into the side of the garage. Actually, the sounde was worse than the damage, or at least I thought. A small baseball size dent in the right rear quarter panel. Three estimates, $694; $853 and $973. Which do I take. Actually, I thinking of leaving it alone so I won't have to stress over my first dent. |

Are these quotes from a body repair shop?
Any paint missing? If not there are various paintless dent removal places, many of which will come to you. Maybe you could find one of those for a quote. If they don't have to remove the whole panel and re-spray it, it shouldwork out pretty cheap. |

Just a small chip on the bumper is the only paint damage, (the size of a pencil eraser). The dent is about 2 inches in diameter right next to the edge of the metal where it meets the bumper. The resaon the body shop estimates have been so high is that they want to basically take my car apart just to refinish the small area. I'm not so sure I want that done, nor am I thrilled about body filler. I'm definately going to look into paintless dent removal. Thanks for the suggestion. Someone also mentioned that I should try applying dry ice to the dent as this will contract the metal and often times the dent "pops back".

Let us read from the book of Impacticus: "And verily I say to thee, doth not the vilification of sound, pristine body not suck." Well, I'm pretty sure that's how it went.
I know what you're talkin' 'bout UGA, me n' mine didn't make it to 3 weeks before a fallin' branch creatively reconfigured my S2s driver side rear haunch. But I totally agree about the removal of the stress involved in losin' yer cherry. Be well, enjoy the turns n' be very wary of Volvos. Even parked Volvos. |

Definitely try the paintless removal places. They are usually pretty good about telling you what they can't handle and won't try it if they can't. Of course, you want to discuss this with them beforehand.
As far as whether to fix it or not. If, every time you walk up to your car you see the dent and it bothers you... or as you're driving it you can't get the dent out of your mind... get it fixed. You won't regret it. When dealing with body shops, it might be worthwhile to tell them you're not filing a claim, but it's coming out of your pocket AND you can pay cash. They seem to like cash, go figure. |
