Is it better to put tonneau cover on when the top is lowered

I just recently switched to a 2005 S2000 from a 2003 Audi A4, I love every minute of driving it. Here is my question, should I put the tonneau cover on when lower the top, I have learned that it really doesn't matter, but some s2000 owners indicated that the tonneau cover actually protect the soft top in the lowered position.

Appreciate any feedback.

I would say it entirely depends on your expected journey.

I get in the car in the morning, put the top down (if it's not raining, which isn't often) drive to work, and put the top up. It'd be silly to mess around with the cover each end.

If you are going to be doing a "proper" day out in the car in glorious sunshine, then it's worth thinking about using it.

I've used it maybe 3 or 4 times in three years of ownership.

I think I've used it about twice.
Technically it is better as it keeps the dust and dirt off the inside of the top.

I'm a newbie as far as ownership, n' my used '04 didn't come with a tonneau, but, livin' in an area known for trees (before I had it for 3 weeks hadda branch come down n' put a ding in my rear quarter) I think the use of a tonneau might keep me from takin' an acorn n' leaf shower every time I put the top up in the fall. The possibility of havin' to clean out bird crap outa the inside of the top might be another plus.
But as far as necessity? I don't see it. When you can put the top up n' down in 6 seconds (thank you Matt) why bother?

Never used it, not once. Just too much hassle putting it on and taking it off.
