First real long distance drive
OK, I've driven a couple hundred miles on occasion and my 04 is my daily driver. But just drove from FL to VA and then to RI. A total of 1260 miles in two days of driving. I will be driving back non-stop to FL (1125 miles) in a few weeks, at least that is the plan. This is what I found. The car was not what I would call comfortable over that range but not bad at all. Not as nice a ride as my Benz but better or at least equal to a number of other cars I have had over the years so I was pleasantly surprised. My best GPM was a hair over 30, I had about 312 miles on that tank when I filled up. I am usually in the 24 range. I put it on cruise and typically ran about 70-75mph though I did have a few runs into the 80s and at the end of the second day got caught in terrible traffic around NY. Stop and go with a clutch is never fun. The only suggestion I would make is I put in some foam ear plugs to deaden the noise. A few hours is OK but it got pretty intrusive after about 3 hours. Forget about usingthe radio over 70, I have an after market and can crank it up to hear it but I would probably go deaf after 10 hours of that. Oh, there was one stretch in NY where the road was all torn up, no secret here, the S really feels those pot holes. The car ran like a clock. Didn't burn any oil and engine temp never varied. All and all I was very happy with the trip. Just thought I would share that if any of you are thinking of a long trip.

I did a 2000+ mile road trip out to Seattle and back in August in my 07 and agree with all you said Jake. Some of the compromises in cargo capacity and comfort that a larger car would offer were more than offset by the joy of this car with the top down on a remote mountain pass in Idaho or along the coast.
