Disaster averted or fuel gauge anomally?

On a wonderful roadtrip. San Fran to Vegas. Swapping a set of ap1 rims + $$ for ap2 rims. Anyway, out in the desert, maybe 80 miles from Vegas. Just notice 2 bars left on the fuel gauge, but no refill lite. Usual in town driving, the warning lite comes on at 3 bars. So 1 min later, down to 1 bar. Never been there. Then the refill lite comes on. Seemed like only mins later, NO bars! I pull into the truck lane, ac off, cruise control at 50mph, and commence to sweat bullets. I don't know how long I went with no bars but it seemed an eternity. Just before the coronary struck, I hit a dumpy desert 76 station with $4gal pumps. Would paid 10 fold. Just so I could tell how close I came to death in the desert, I squeezed every drop I could into the tank. 11.27 gals!

WTF? No bars, and what, 2 gals to go? Might be a gas pump issue. Maybe cut out too soon?

But, while I've known'att for some time now . . . everytime I get down'ta that third bar, all the knowin' in'a world don't help. I'm sweatin' bulletz.

Same shit hap'd to me. Went 30+ miles before I found gas. Turns out, I had about a gallon left. Basically, when the light goes on, I figure that I've got about 50 miles to go before I'm calling AAA. I try to fill up when the light goes on cuz it bit me in the ass once and I ran out of gas 30 miles after the light came on. I was late for work that day.

Happened in my motor home in West Texas where the stations are about 100 miles apart. If you make it to one they charge whatever they want.

Better that than my time when I had 2 bars, no light and put 12.7 gallons in mine!

Lol! I love that pic. I am pretty sure that is my mother in that shot.

So what's the deal? After I filled up at my last chance texaco, I google tank size. Came up with 13.4 gals. But when I told the guy I bought the rims from, he said the tank holds 11.7. I don't have the manual with me (even that space is dear). So what's the deal? Did I have several gals left, or was I knocking on heavens door? (like I did so many times before)

Does anybody else find that shadow of a head on the bottom of the picture creepy? I've never had that problem so I cannot help you out. I furthest i've gone was the bars left and had to fill up.

13.2 (50l) is what it says in mine (2008 ) and in the PDF copy of the manual I downloaded.

the picture has a certain eerie noir feel about it...the shadows, the bare trees in the dead of winter, the old gas station, her hard stare and her mona lisa smile...and the shadow at the bottom looks like an intruder.

The shadow is the person taking the picture with the sun low behind him.
