Importing S2k to Canada

Hello, my first thread here..
Looking to purchase a S2000 (200 in the US importing it back to Calgary.
Initial price check reveal a 15K diff between US and Canada!
Question to all Canucks who import thier S2k, any surprises or things to watch out for? Thank you for your comments.

Importing a vehicle

Hi there Ocrat,
I imported an S2000 from the States back in the fall. For starters, go to riv.ca. They have a tonne of information there. Although I paid somebody to ship it, I was there at customs assisting in the process. Pretty simple for the most part.

Me to........imported my new s2000 in Oct 2007. If you intend to import a new 2008 you have to check that riv.ca has acknowledged the 2008 models.

What year of car are you buying? What are the two price points that make 15k difference? Just curious.

Sorry for the delay in reply, just return from Denver (landed midnight). Checked out on a few dealership there today. No purchase yet, leaning towards importing the Club Racer (CR). Best price I found so far for a 2008 CR is around $34k, still looking for better deal.
Yes I did checked RIV.ca and spoked to them, they gave me the assurance that the CR will be accepted for import.
RIV.ca reported all Honda 2008 models are acceptable.

A few question if I may,
- Is it true that any US bought S2k warranty will not be recognized by Honda Canada?
- Any suggestion on a reliable insured shipper from the US that will assist in bring the S2k across say on a flat bed? Concern in breaking the new engine by running long distance.
- Any suggestions on good US Honda dealers that offer better deals for a 2008 CR?

Thanks in advance for all your inputs.

Make sure you have a proper letter of recall before you hand over any money. The seller of my car had a hard time obtaining one from honda USA. I have a name of car carrier some where that my friend has used a few times.

Letter of recall is easy to get from the honda web site, you can get that once you have a VIN, also be aware that the paperwork has to be at the border 72hrs prior to the car
I also have a shipping company, my car was shipped from Ohio to Ontario, door to door. Who ever you go with shop around I found big differences in prices

Good Luck

Thanks for all the help.
Picking up the CR tomorrow, and a long drive home (1100 miles).
Curious, anyone own a CR in Canada?

Thanks Trunger for the offer.
Just picked up the car here in Denver, I love it!
Weather is not cooperating, just started snowing.
Hesitant to drive on the snow with the bubble gum tires on it.
Found out that the spare tire will not fit on the original designated compartment. The CR has a cross bar installed where the old soft top and spare tire used to resides. Long journey home with no spare tire... fingers cross.
