Fuel pump continues running when ignition off

My 1999 S2000 fuel pump continues to run for about 30 minutes when I've switched the motor/ignition off.

I can hear it run for 5 seconds, stop for a few seconds and start again, the stop intervals gradually get longer and after 30 minutes the pump finally stops running.

First time it happened I disconnected the battery and the next day when I reconnected it, the pump only started once I turned the ignition on.

But after a drive same thing, switch motor off and fuel pump continued running - this time I unscrewed the fuel cap, there was a hiss as the pressure in the tank was released and the pump immediately stopped, but after every drive it still happens.

Otherwise the car is running fine, has anyone else experienced this problem?. Thanks

you can hear your fuel pump... whaaat?

makes no sense man, on most cars there is a fuel pump relay that shuts it off as soon as the ignition is off.. good luck

You should not have negative pressure in the gas tank. Some of your fuel system plumbing must be at fault.
