Rev limiter at 7,000
Yesterday I was showing off the car to some girls I work with and I started it up and reved it up and it stopped at 7,000 even with the pedal floored. I didn't hold it there for even a second before I let off but it obviously was the limiter.
Then today I was coming home and the car was not warmed up yet when I floored it in 2nd and again got locked out at 7,000. You don't have to tell me it's bad for the engine, I know. Anyways, later after the engine had warmed up more I could get up to 8,000 with no issue. I looked in the manual and it didn't say anything about the rev limiter being at 7,000 if the engine isn't warmed up. So is it programmed to do that? Is there any documentation on this? |

It keeps you from damaging your motor before it's fully warmed up. Keep the lead out of your foot until it's warmed up to 3 bars (on an ap1). Someone chime in on the #of bars in an ap2.
Yeah, not very impressive when you bump off the rev limiter. When the previous owner of my car was showing me what it had, he did that and I thought "what the fuk was that?" I wasn't impressed.

AP2 has too many tiny bars to bother counting...so I'll just say "half way", plus another 5 minutes or so to keep it safe.
P.S. Most girls don't care how high your car revs. The ones that do are the ones you probably want to stay away from. Good advice! |

On the 08+ for sure you need to have at least 4 bars before you can rev into VTEC.

I normally don't drive fast but when i do i always try to make sure the car is properly warmed up. Every once in a while i will slip up and get the revs up higher than i should then i feel like an ass for treating her bad.

I originally signed on to ask this exact question. Mine cut even earlier than 7; it was roughly 5,500 or so (no vtec for you WORD).
I wasn't showing off to chicks though, so my story is hardly is interesting. I was turning left across a busy street and didn't want to miss my small window of opportunity to merge on. Shame on me. |

The AP1/AP2 engine internals have had not sufficient chance to warm up obviously and the mechanical components are not at optimal operating temperature. Honda Motor Co. implemented this specifically to prevent engine damage especially above 7000rpm. Can you imagine thats 116 revolutions per SECOND. how fast is that conrod and piston moving? fairly fast, best to let it warm up
