home made Snorkel
Hey guys ive been wanting to buy a snorkel for the oem airbox for sometime but have decided 300 bucks is wacko. So ive come up with the idea to try and create one myself using parts available at local stores.
If anyone has a useful idea on how to do this please post it!! Im at work currently but after work im gonna go around to some auto parts stores and see what i can find. The only material i can think of right now is the adjustable tubing for dryer exhaust and cutting a funnel and securing it to the end of the tube. but if anyone else has any better ideas im all ears |

you can use ducting, but it looks REALLY cheap. dont secure it to the inlet either, just have it blow towards the opening in the airbox.

I thought most snorkles had a bigger opening, I know the password JDM is much smaller but didn't know all were like that.

might as well just use duct tape and cover 75% of the oem "funnel" |

I would think of PVC piping with some rubber inserts maybe, before I thought of Dryer ducting....idk, as suggested modifying an ebay may be a better solution.

I just want to thank you guys for your input. I decided to buy the $55 dollar snorkel because the password jdm snorkel looks just as thin in the bend as this cheapo I bought and the jdm one is used in their air intake kit with zero bottlenecks

Power gain? Really? How much? (gains measured with a butt dyno are usually psychological)

I havnt put my car on a dyno, to really get any answers, but from driving it every day... then i put the snorkel on, it "spinns" second a little, and i can feel it pull better from down lown in the rpm range.... say you are in 5th gear in about 3,000 rpm, and you step on it, it pulls more.
I like it, but if you are looking for a noise increase, there isn't one because you are using the stock air box.... Also when your car is on the track, it keeps fresh air going into your motor... I know what i can do, so im not using my "butt" dyno..... i have dynolicous on my ipod, with previouse dyno runs on it from before the intake.... I am going to compare them some time and provide y'all with some info on it...
