You check the oil every time before you drive it??? The car is built by Honda, ya know....I think you can relax a little.
No worries. I've heard some cars burn oil, but as long as you stick to regular changes you'll be fine. |

Most obvious first: look under the front of the car, do you have an oil leak? Seems like the last oil change person was not too savvy. Do you know if the car has synthetic or dino oil? If synthetic, switching to dino may reduce oil consumption. Last if the engine is not broken in carefully in the first 1000 miles it could burn a little oil. My 08 f22c which I babied for the first 1500 miles does not require any oil between changes.
So you're still at the full mark right? Sounds like the engine was overfilled (which is bad in itself) and burned the excess oil. Keep an eye on the dipstick.

it has close to 50,000km.
no leaks - we lifted the car in the garauge and checked. current oild is 5w40 synthetic - this is what dealers put here (our climate is hot). yes - it was overfilled. now it's exactly at FULL mark. what's strange to mee - if it's consuming oil why it doesn't do it after x-cross day and hard mountains driving? i only saw oil level reduced after relaxed high way and traffic driving.... |

Hot Climate ... 5w 40w? ... You might want to check out a viscosity chart

what are you suggesting?
i checked viscosity chart more than once but it's too vague and not unequivocal. anything between 5-10 W 30-40. |

Always wipe the dipstick before checking. The oil wicks up the stick a bit. See this link. http://forums.s2kca.com/showthread.p...light=dipstick |

croc just so you know what is related to the climate you live in is the (x)W i like to call W winter i think it actually means winter but it meant that a lower W oil say what your using 5 it is low for a hot climate and is not needed. basically it is how quickly it will get to optimum viscosity. sorry if its confusing its just what comes out of my head onto the keyboard =P if anyone wants to correct me or make it simpler by all means....PS id reccomend a 15W30 or 15W40 i find that to be good for 4cyl engines in reasonably hot climates

The early f20c was notorious for burning oil. My first S would use almost a 1 1/2 quarts of oil between changes. I used regular dyno oil not synthetic. I tried to use synthetic once (mobil 1) and my oil consumption doubled. I also live in a very hot climate. I would reccommend that you change to 10 w 30 motor oil and possibly a dyno oil. I'm driving my second S and I run nothing but dyno oil in it and I have no oil consumption at all. I'm not saying synthetic is not great oil because it is, I'm just saying that some of these cars use a lot more oil than others. I change my oil and filter every three thousand miles and have had no mechanical failures.
By the way how often do you hit vtec?

Vtec?.......hm.......
on the hard driving - quite a lot. uphills are done at high revs. "normal" driving is very few Vtecs and most of the time done at 4000-5000 rpms. and untill now oild level got lower after "normal" driving. |

There's too much worry about oil consumption. It just means it's doing it's job. It's not an indication of any engine problems unless you use more than 1 qt. every thousand miles. On the up side, when you add oil you're replenishing the additives that are important to engine life. Especially a high performing engine like the S. In a hot climate, a good synthetic gives you extra protection. Sort of a crankshaft condom. The molecular structure is more consistent than with regular oil, which may account for the difference in oil use.

We need to know how much oil is consumed Fri miles driven. You can drive many miles and 3 months or 5,000 km, auction and may indicate a gallon of oil consumed.Add a gallon of oil. Run the engine for 10 seconds, wait 5 minutes to check the oil level.
