Cool How to get more power and better gas mileage

Hello All,

I have a '03 S2000 and was wondering about ways to boost power and gas mileage. I'm not looking to spend a lot of money; if possible I would like to keep it under $1000.

What are some of the best ways to do this without killing your wallet, warrantee or my mechanical skills.

If you had to make a list what would that list look like and why?

Thanks for your advice.

Intake, header and exhaust. They should be around $1500 for all if you buy them used. Maybe less, just a guess from past experiences. If you drive it the same way you do now, you will have better gas mileage. People say it brings it down but what it really does is make you want to get on it more thus having worse mileage.

throw on a standalone and lean it out. you will get more power better fuel mileage and cracked pistons. There really isnt a way to get better power and better fuel economy no matter what the tornado tells you.

More power AND better gas mileage? You know they advertise stuff like that. I am looking for less work and more money. Why not, a guy can dream can't he? The intake and exhaust might work for the power end but at $1500 you'd hardly get your money back. What would be the very best result a mile or so per gallon? And only if you keep your foot out of it. I think what we're looking for here is power cost be damned with the intake and exhaust. I personally don't need no more power. John H

Chris;
The most potent source of power that can be had is probably (there's another of those key words) lyin' in the ol' steerin' wheel/ gas pedal/shifter nut.
Puttin' some time in at somethin' like an SCCA sponsored event will gain you more than jus' some track time. The folks that frequent these things enjoy sharin' knowledge as much as they enjoy clippin' an apex.
One of our site brethren put it best when he said that attemptin' to "improve" Stewie should only be considered after you've learned to make use of all that it has to offer. (Sorry Lance, I remember your intent, not necessarily the exact wordin')
Fact of it is, jus' like we're doin' usin', what is it? Roughly 20% of our brains? Many of us are only usin' the most obvious parts of what Stewie's capable of n' thinkin' that that's all it's got to offer.
If all of us were usin' all that Stewie had to offer us stock, there'd be a whole lot less B.S. about J.C.Whitney add-ons on this site.
Be well.

One mod to give you quicker acceleration and improved fuel economy is weight reduction. Chuck out everything in the car you don't need

Eg
- remove spare wheel, remove motors for soft top, remove weighty stock exhaust (replace with single system), remove passenger seat...

(long thread but very funny)
