2005 S200 transmission

I have a 2005 s2000 & ever since I took delivery of the vehicle it periodically pops out of 2nd gear. It only happens when transmission/engine holding the car back...not under accelleration. The dealer has not been able to determine what is causing this to occur...actually they can't duplicate the problem. Has anyone experienced this problem.

Any responses are appreciated

I have exactly the same prblem with my 04. I was at the local dealer for another issue and mentioned the 2nd gear issue and he pulled up a service bulletin on it. NOT a TSB. It's a known problem. I didn't have time to leave the car to get it repaired yet.

Unhappy Same problem with 2005 S2K

I have the same problem with my 2005 S2K. If I'm sitting at the light with gear engaged in 1st gear - as soon as I release the clutch to accelerate, the clutch jumps out with a loud bang and vibration on the gear shifter. It's happening quite a bit (once in 2-3 weeks). Really puzzling. I'm thinking of taking it in to the dealer.

Just as an observer: the "bang" n' vibration that Blue describes would have me gettin' it to a dealer, not jus' thinkin' about it.
when somethin' mechanical gives you warnin's of notable noises r' vibrations where there should be none, it could mean that the next time, r' the time after that, the warnin' noise/vibration might not be so subtle . . r' driveable for that matter.
If it were mine I'd get it checked out.
Be well.

Good point

Thanks Java Junkie. I do agree that procastination is not warrented here. So... I'll report back once I take it in to the dealer and tell you what happens.

Thanks again.

First thing i would do is flush the trans fluid and replace it with something more proper. A lot of people very much prefer GM Syncromesh.

My 2006 doesn't pop out of gear (at least not yet!), but I have noticed it is a bit notchy going into 2nd, and especially 3rd. The more aggressive I drive, the smoother it gets. But when cold, or during normal driving, its notchy. Is this normal? Thanks.

About the "notchiness" of the shifter when cold bjur: most mechanicals r' a wee bit (some moreso than others) reluctant to oparate smoothly when the oil involved is cold. Units r' usually set up for peak operational efficiency with the oil at operating temperature, as that's where most of the work gets done.
So, when jus' 'bout anything mechanical is cold, while it should be expected to operate satisfactorily, chances it won't operate as well as when the oil is warmed up.
Especially when it's cold outside, a period of pampering (in-use warm-up) should preceed any serious use until the li'l fella's at least given the chance to wake up.
Be well.

Thanks for the info Java Junky. I have a friend with a 2005. I'm going to let him drive mine. There is a difference between being a bit notchy and being a bit clunky. I'm just not sure how notchy is ok and when it becomes sign of a problem. Possibly someone missed a shift on a test drive before I became an owner? Who knows.

Talking Solutions to Transmission Problem

Gents,

As I had described earlier in a post, I've had the same problem but mine was in 1st gear as I slow release my clutch from a dead stop. The clutch would pop out with a loud bang and vibration on the shifter that would seem jarring. So I took it into the dealership and had warranty work done on it.

Solution:
The technician found that the manf. had setup the 1st and 2nd gear syncros at the very edge of the specs and with natural wear and tear of the syncros, the gear was slipping due to the OEM setup being at the edge of the specs. So... he replaced my 2nd gear syncro which he says affected my 1st gear problem. By replacing only the 2nd gear syncro, he was able to solve the problem.

Hope this helps.

Hell on wheels - see my post on the solution to this problem. I have a 2005 S2000 with the exact same issue which was solved.

Just discovered this site when googling the gear issue with my S2000

I have a 2004 that pops out of gear ocassionally when downshifting. It has been an issue since I purchased new. Mentioned to dealer, but they had never heard of the problem. I thought that I wasn't depressing the clutch completely, but today I made sure that I did and it happened again.

it's a known problem with 2004 transmissions. Tell the dealer to read the TSB's. Or have them do a search for 2004 transmission problems. They can't be that dumb, they just don't want to do the warranty work (and this should be covered because it's a known problem to Honda America)
