7000 RMS's
I have a '07 S2000.
When I have accelerating quickly (1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd) I seem to top out at 7,000 RPMs. When I hit 7,000 it feels like the engine pauses or hiccups. Is a governor installed to prevent me from redlining the engine? What's going on? TIA. |

Having hit the rev limiter a time or two myself, it sure sounds that way to me, although, in my 2002, it doesnt' engage until 9000 rpm. I thought the newer models redline was closer to 8500 so 7000 sounds rather low (and not much fun). Anyone have a new Stewie that has hit the limiter?

The AP2's have a redline of 8000 so it wouldn't be a governor to my knowledge. And if so it doesnt really sound like you are hitting a governor anyway usually it just cuts the engine. Is your car stock, and are you using good fuel?

Unless the engine isn't warmed up, the problem you are describing isn't natural.

Still sounds like the rev limiter to me. Yes, it does "cut the engine", but it's more of a hiccup, or pause, like you described. They call it "bouncing off the limiter." It only "cuts off the engine" for the fraction of a second it takes to fall below redline again.
Once the car is warmed up, take it up through 7000 and pay very close attention to where EXACTLY you're having the trouble. You might find that it's closer to 8000 than you thought. |
