Squeaky clutch pedal

My clutch pedal made a horrible squeaking noise everytime it was depressed. I applied some wd40 to the rod behind the pedal but it only made it worse. I was going to take it to honda but i expected to be charged at least $150.00 so I tried the local mechanic. He hoisted the car up, opened something up, re-aligned and cleaned the 'fork'. 10 minutes later, no squeak. $20.00.
